CELEBRATE NATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION WEEK

Looking to protect yourself from fraud, identity theft, and scams? Maybe you’re wondering about the best way to use credit, how to shop for a used car, or maximize your security online.

The Financial Empowerment Center joins Fairfax County Consumer Affairs in celebrating National Consumer Protection Week March 6- 12, 2022.

We will be providing a FREE Virtual presentation on Scams on March 10, 2022, at 6:30 PM. Please see the flyer below for more information and to register.

VITA - Gerry Hyland Government Center/Access Fairfax

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), located at 8350 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309, will provide Tax Services by appointment only for clients with an income of $58,000 or less.

In-Person Tax Preparation: Bring your photo I.D., Social Security Cards, and tax documents needed to prepare your return. Complete the intake form, and an IRS-certified volunteer will prepare your taxes. Your taxes will be electronically filed once you have reviewed all forms. Allow 2 hours for the in-person filing appointment.

DFSVita@fairfaxcounty.gov. One appointment is available daily for each person.

All customers will receive an email to confirm their appointment and a reminder of the Fairfax County Government health and safety guidelines that must be followed during their appointment.

SAVING FOR RETIREMENT

Are you currently saving for retirement? Given the importance of saving, it's a good habit to check in each year to make sure you are saving what you can within your budget. Here are some tips to think about when contributing to your retirement:

The best time to start saving for retirement is now! Thanks to the impact of compounding, even if you're only able to invest a little bit each month, you're giving those savings potentially decades to grow until you retire.

Does your employer offer to match your contributions to the company retirement plan? If so, this can be a terrific opportunity to increase your retirement savings, even if you're only able to save a little bit each month!
Did you know there is a 'savers credit' for your taxes? Depending on your income, you can receive a tax credit based on the amount you contribute to your retirement accounts!

Of course, all of the different options for saving for retirement can be confusing, and we're here to help! Come attend one of our classes or schedule a free one-on-one coaching session where our coaches can help you create a plan to start saving (or save more) for retirement!
