Lent is Coming!

In just one week, Ash Wednesday will usher in the season of Lent. Lent, as you know, is a time of prayer, fasting, repentance, and giving to the poor. These are things we do all year, but there is an intensified emphasis on them during Lent, and more opportunities to increase our devotion and reflection.

Stations of the Cross, a traditional Lenten devotion, will be prayed in church on the other Wednesdays of Lent, at 10:00 am, and again at 6:00 pm. The evening service will include Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Ash Wednesday Schedule

Services for Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, which will include both the Eucharist and the Imposition of Ashes, will be held at 10:30 am and again at 7:00 pm.
The morning service will be entirely spoken, with no music at all. The evening service will include some chant and some hymns.
The ashes are a sign of repentance, and a reminder of our mortality. Anyone who wishes may receive ashes.

...and so is the Bishop

Bishop Sean Rowe will make his official visitation to St. Andrew's on Sunday, March 27th. He will preside and preach at the 10:30 am Mass.
Anyone who has not been confirmed, or received into the Episcopal Church, and wishes to do so, should let Mother Ellen know as soon as possible. Likewise, anyone who wishes to make a public Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows should also speak with Mother Ellen, so she can let the bishop know well ahead of time.

Lenten Bible Study

For our Lenten reflection, We will have a Bible study centering on Abraham and his family, as we read of it in the 12th through the 50th chapters of the Book of Genesis.
These sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm, in Brent House. They will be hybrid; that is, people may join in person, or over Zoom. The Zoom link for Wednesdays will be: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8692719087  Meeting ID 869 271 9087. All you need to join in is a Bible, and your curiosity. And if necessary, we can supply the Bible.

Note: Evening Prayer will not be offered on Wednesdays during Lent.

Looking ahead...

The Capen Garden Walk seeks volunteers.  We have openings for our committee, which meets monthly.  We also need volunteers to assist at our annual Garden Walk, which will be Saturday-Sunday, July 16-17, 2022, and our Plant & Seed Exchanges on Saturday, May 21 and Saturday, September 24.  You can help with a few small tasks, or get more involved - it's your choice. To volunteer, contact committee chair Linda Young at capengardenwalk@gmail.com.
