Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

One in three people (33%) have experienced sexual harassment at work in the last five years.

Do you know how to prevent sexual harassment at your workplace? Start this important conversation at your workplace by using Safe Work Australia’s new infographic - Workplace sexual harassment statistics.
Or if you have been sexually harassed at your workplace read this infographic - What to do if you are sexually harassed at work.

These new infographics are part of a suite of materials including guidance materials, information sheets and infographics to help persons conducting a business or undertaking, such as employers and small businesses, understand what sexual harassment is and what their WHS duties are around sexual harassment.

Foundation Skills Survey

TasTAFE and 26TEN are partnering up to conduct research about foundation skills in the workplace and we would love to know about the impact of these skills in YOUR business.

This research will inform the creation of a flexible training tool kit for managers and supervisors, to support 'in house' foundation skill development for workers.

We invite you to complete our short survey.
Cancer Council Tasmania Future Fund

The past two years has proven that organisations such as Cancer Council Tasmania which rely principally on fundraising and donations to fund its business must source other reliable revenue streams.

The ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tasmania and continuing community concerns has reinforced the decision by Cancer Council Tasmania to establish the Future Fund was a good decision.

The Future Fund is a new initiative. It is a capacity-building vehicle to reduce the risk of reliance on current fundraising and donor activities.
The objective of the Future Fund is to provide financial security to Cancer Council Tasmania by sourcing substantial investment into the Fund from which the earnings will be reinvested back into business operations.

The Fund will ensure we can continue to deliver its programs, services and research investment.
The Future Fund, chaired by respected Tasmanian businessman Royce Fairbrother, is governed by Cancer Council Tasmania’s Board. Our organisation’s Constitution was amended to incorporate specific rules on how funds can be used to ensure transparency and provide assurance to donors.

Although the Future Fund is taking some time to build, the importance of continuing to market the Future Fund and focus on why Tasmanians should support it, is essential for our long-term survival.
Every day, more than 9 Tasmanians receive a cancer diagnosis. This adds to the 30,000 Tasmanians currently living with or from a cancer diagnosis with national research indicating that by 2040 this figure will increase to over 40,000.

The need is clear and growing. Tasmanians will have a far greater demand for cancer support services in the future, the importance of continuing cancer prevention education programs and investment into research are priorities that cannot be ignored.

The goal is to raise $10 million for the Future Fund in the next 10 years. Donors may not see all the benefits today, but they will be assured that in the future, CCT can still be relied upon by their children and ongoing generations.

If you would like to know more about the Cancer Council Tasmania Future Fund please contact Penny Egan, CEO at pegan@cancertas.org.au or 6169 1900.

Main Streets of Australia Week is an initiative to celebrate and promote businesses and shopping in main streets and town centres around Australia and runs from May 16 – May 22.

Even before COVID, many main streets were struggling and, in some cases, dying, for reasons beyond their control; the introduction of internet shopping and development of shopping centres both came as a huge blow.

With more than 2 million small businesses in Australia, and many of these on our main streets, they do an enormous amount for the community. We need to support them, to ensure their survival, so they can continue to:

• provide a huge number of jobs to those that rely on local or flexible work,
• create local spending,
• support local causes and charities, as well as sporting groups and schools
• provide a place for the elderly or vulnerable to find their fit in the community,
• build connection and provide safe spaces, and
• allow a huge number of families to stay financially afloat.

This is the first time it has been done and they are hoping to make it an annual event.
There is no funding required to do this and Main Street Australia has provided free downloadable marketing materials and more information that can be found at https://mainstreetaustralia.org.au

Bulk Nutrients are giving away $1000 a day for 100 days to small charity and NFP organisations that support health, fitness and wellbeing.

They are strong believers in the power of community, and supporting grass roots organisations and their volunteers. Volunteers are an extremely important part of almost every sports and community group in Australia.

Amongst the Bulk Nutrients staff they have volunteers that sit on committees for Little Athletics, Gridiron, Soccer and Horse Riding Clubs... that coach and manage school and adult sports teams... that maintain sporting grounds, and plenty of parents that supply the oranges at half time! They have staff that give their time to donate blood, serve in food vans to provide meals to those suffering homelessness, and volunteer at animal shelters.

Like the organisations they're seeking to support... Bulk Nutrients started small. This means they understand how far $1000 can go when you're a small organisation and are focusing on donating $1000 a day over 100 days to 100 Australian Not for Profit or Charity organisations.

Below are the important dates to remember...

1/2/2022 - Entries open

25/4/2022 - First winners announced

1/6/2022 - Applications can be submitted until the available funding is fully subscribed, or will close on 1 June 2022 at 5pm, Hobart time, whichever occurs first.

3/8/2022 - Final winners announced
