Hi ski friends,

It’s just been just over 13 months since we launched Nordic Pulse publicly on Feb 3, 2021, and what a year it’s been! Just under a million page views and 152k unique users later, we’re thrilled to have had the ski community embrace Nordic Pulse.

So far this season, we’ve grown to have over 75+ ski areas across North America onboard. And we’ve had over 138k unique users (skiers!) on nordic-pulse.com this season, with 285k page views in the last 30 days alone.

We’re very excited about the growth, as well as the wonderful feedback we’ve been getting from ski areas, groomers and skiers. We have been working full blast optimizing and improving our GPS system, rolling out new features for both groomers and skiers, and providing technical support to all our ski areas, and I’d like to say that both Colin and I regularly talk about how very rewarding it has been to have had such a positive reception from the ski world.

We feel fortunate to be working with some of the largest ski areas in North America as well as many small, volunteer-only clubs, and getting to know groomers from areas of all sizes has been a blast.

We’re kicking off our Nordic Pulse Newsletter to keep everyone up to date on our latest features, share some insight into how everything is going, and continue to spread the word about Nordic Pulse.

Read on to hear about some highlighted new features!

Map Colour Breakdown

As many of you know, ever since the early days of Nordic Pulse, the breakdown of the map colours has been a highly controversial subject.

Our friends in Alberta would love to have trails coloured green for 4 days during high-pressure systems, while coastal groomers dealing with heavy snowfall have asked us for green to last just 2 hours.

Our mission with Nordic Pulse is to bring ski areas together onto a central platform, and our stance from the beginning has been simple - we want skiers to be able to look at trail reports from anywhere, and instantly know what’s going on - and to do so, we’ve held firm on maintaining constant colour breakdowns at all ski areas.

To maintain this consistently, all the while providing as much information as we can, we’ve recently launched a new feature that allows skiers to toggle the colour range on the map from the default 14-day range down to 7-days, 4-days, 36-hours, 24-hours or 12-hours. So far the feedback has been great! For most skiers, the default 14d range works well, and for those who would like it, more detailed information is easily available.

To use this feature, click on the pink “14d” button, bottom right of map.

GPS Enabled “Tracksetting”

One of our optional features is “Tracksetting” mode, where ski areas can share separate dates/times for "grooming” (i.e. crystal corduroy ) vs “tracksetting” (i.e. classic tracks).

We’re excited to announce that both Grooming and Tracksetting times can now be automatically set via GPS. Further, skiers can now toggle between Grooming and Tracksetting modes on the map, giving them a quick at-a-glance view of the information.

Pictured below are (left) Last Groomed Map and (right) Last Trackset Map at Caledonia Nordic in Prince George, BC. As you can see, most trails were last groomed today (green), and last trackset yesterday (yellow).

Grooming Apps

We are releasing our latest grooming apps as we speak for both iOS and Android. We will share more details as we ship the apps, but here is a sneak peek of a few highlights:

  • A much-improved groomer authorization process (no need to Force Close the app!)

  • Grooming logs can now sync online

  • Updated in-app live-grooming map and geolocation feature

  • Social media sharing (super excited about this one!) and in-app live-grooming-map screenshot generator

  • Improvements to the manual trails editor and written reports interfaces

As always, we’ve done our best to bring in new features without changing the look/feel of the core functions.

Social Media

We recently launched social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook, and we would love your help in spreading the word! Please feel free to share, re-post, mention and tag us at #nordicpulsegrooming and #nordicpulsegroomers!

Meet the Groomers

Additionally, we have kicked off our “Meet the Groomers” series. We feel that groomers are the unsung heroes of our sport, and we would love to shine the spotlight on the individuals who put in the long hours for the rest of us to enjoy.

If you, or anyone on your team, would be interested in being featured, let us know!

Wrapping Up

As we hit the final phase of the ski season, we’ll be doing what we can to ensure that skiers know that there’s still tons of great skiing to be had!

We’ve also had many ski areas sign on in the last few weeks, and we’re excited to get them up and running for the remainder of the season.

Finally, we’d love your help spreading the word about Nordic Pulse! If you know of any ski areas that may be interested, feel free to share this email and/or my contact info. We’d love to chat.

Enjoy lots of cruisy klister skiing and warm temps!

Cheers,

Julien
