ePetition re Coila Lake Foreshore Development

If you are a resident of NSW and especially the Eurobodalla Shire you may be interested in signing the following online petition from residents of Tuross Head.

The petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly requests that Eurobodalla Shire Council undertake a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement prior to development adjacent to Coila Lake Foreshore.

The current DA was approved over 30 years ago and lies close to the foreshore of Coila Lake. It’s highly likely to damage precious flora, fauna and Aboriginal Heritage.

The sites slope down to a walkway through natural bush along the foreshore of Coila Lake. It’s used by the local community for leisure, wildlife photography and exercise.

The western site is adjacent to remnant littoral rainforest, wetlands, saltmarsh and seagrass beds which are home to wildlife feeding on diverse plants, insects and animals. The foreshore supports several “Endangered Ecological Communities” which need urgent protection from this development.

The eastern site holds rich cultural history for the area’s First Nations people with artefacts requiring archaeological investigation.

Council cannot produce any Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of this area, will not commit to undertaking one, actively avoid engagement and rarely respond to any of our attempts to communicate.

The petition aims to see Coila Lake foreshore preserved and the proposed 'Zombie' development undergo a comprehensive EIS to ensure best practice measures protect this unique and historical natural area.
