WCVM Service Learning Group
To SVMA members,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Service Learning Group of the WCVM.  We are so pleased to be inviting folks to volunteer for more clinics in the La Ronge area this year.  Our next spay/neuter and wellness clinics are planned for May 13th – 15th and June 10th – 12th, 2022.  We are looking for keen veterinarians and registered veterinary technologists to assist us with running this clinic.

These trips are a continuation of our work in the area, and will be part of the two Remote Clinical Practice rotations offered to 4th year students at the WCVM this year.  Students will work to achieve several learning outcomes in areas such as anesthesia, surgery, wellness, cultural awareness and community engagement.  We will also include formal outreach activities such as talking to children at community schools and involving volunteers from the community in our event.  In addition, there may be Sk Polytech VT students present at this event who will benefit from the learning opportunities.

The goals of the event are community outreach and education, education of our veterinary and VT students, and assisting the communities with identifying and reaching goals concerning pet population control and public health challenges.  As with our past clinics, we hope to provide vets and techs an opportunity to be involved in teaching, learning and experiencing the north while supporting a community-driven change-making initiative.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact us.  We look forward to your participation and contribution in continuing to build and foster strong relationships with pets and their families in this area.

Prospective volunteers can contact Dr. Jordan Woodsworth at the WCVM at wcvm.servicelearning@usask.ca for further information.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jordan Woodsworth
