February Chapter Meeting

Our next monthly chapter Zoom meeting will be on Monday, February 28, 2022. The Zoom meeting will open at 6:30 PM CST with the program beginning at 7 PM. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Eleanor Lopez who has a Doctorate in Plant Medicine from the University of Florida. She is the lead diagnostician at the University of Tennessee Extension plant pest diagnostic lab in Nashville and is a adjunct professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at UT Knoxville. Volunteer Gardening Resumes

We will resume one of our volunteer native plant gardening projects this Sunday, February 27, at Westmeade Elementary School from 10 AM - Noon. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to be added to our email list for this specific project, let us know with an email

Plant Native 2022!

The Tennessee Valley chapter of Wild Ones (Chattanooga area) will be hosting their Spring native plant conference with events on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, followed by a native plant sale on Saturday, March 19. Please visit Plant Native 2022! for all the details.

Tennessee Native Plant Society

The TNPS Seminar series continues with a presentation by State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath on Tuesday, March 15. at 6:30 CDT. Randy's topic will be Some of my Favorite Wildflowers. Details and Zoom information at on the TNPS website.

Nashville Lawn & Garden Show

This is a reminder that the Nashville Lawn & Garden show will be Thursday through Sunday, March 3-6. Our chapter is helping staff a double booth representing Wild Ones Middle Tennessee Chapter, Tennessee Native Plant Society, Tennessee Invasive Plant Council, and the Tennessee Naturalist Program. Thanks go to everyone who volunteered to help staff the booth. If you are affiliated with any of these groups and would like to be a reserve substitute volunteer (to accommodate scheduling cancellations), please contact Margie Hunter and let her know of your willingness. Please visit the show's website for additional details, including the schedule of presentations in the Lecture Hall.

Of special note is Margie Hunter's presentation Saturday afternoon at 1 PM on Beyond Aesthetics: Garden As If Life Depends On It in the Lecture Hall. Richard Hitt will also serve as a panelist for a taping of Volunteer Gardener hosted by Troy Marden and member Julie Berbiglia on Friday, March 4, 2:30 - 4:30, also in the Lecture Hall.

Weed Wrangle

Many sites in the Nashville area are hosting volunteer Weed Wrangles on Saturday, March 5, to remove invasive plants. Signup is via Hands on Nashville. To see a list of volunteer sites, follow the above link, enter the word "wrangle" into the keyword box and click the Find button. If you don't already have a HON login, you will need to create on to be able to complete the signup.

Dr. David Haskell's New Book

Parnassus Books in Nashville is hosting a book signing event on Monday, March 1, at 6:30 PM CST. They will be celebrating the release of David George Haskell's new book, Sounds Wild and Broken: Sonic Marvels, Evolution's Creativity, and the Crisis of Sensory Extinction. Registration is required, as are masks at the event.
