The CTE is excited to announce our inaugural SoTL Grant recipients! The grants program is designed to support evidence-based research that contributes new knowledge related to teaching and learning at UVA. In total, $17,200 in funding was awarded to grantees to advance their SoTL collaboration, dissemination, or research project.

CTE EVENTS & PROGRAMS


SoTL Scholars


We are accepting applications for our next SoTL Scholars cohort! For 2022-23, the program will consist of two sub-cohorts, depending on whether you conduct your project in the fall or spring semester. The program kicks off with the SoTL Institute in May, introducing you to the foundational principles of SoTL research. Then you will participate in three workshops and a writing retreat to help you make progress toward presentation and/or publication of your work.

All full-time faculty and graduate students are eligible to participate. SoTL Scholar alumni are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to new participants. Prior completion of our Course Design Institute or c3Design is required. Limited professional development funding is available.

Innovation for Education | Innovations in Pedagogy Summit Wednesday, May 4, 2022 in Newcomb Hall
Join us Wednesday, May 4 for our 9th Annual Innovations in Pedagogy Summit as we explore the theme Innovation for Education. The Summit will kick off with our keynote presentation, The Innovation is Coming from Inside the House, by Kevin Gannon. Then throughout the day, there will be sessions offered by our UVA colleagues, including some of our SoTL Scholars presenting their research.

Join an online community of faculty and administrators at various stages in their academic careers representing nearly every discipline found in higher education. Discover four full days of conference programming, scheduled across four Wednesdays to reduce disruption to your teaching schedule. Enjoy a variety of 20-minute and 40-minute asynchronous sessions, traditional plenary addresses, synchronous facilitated discussions, and poster presentations.

The conference theme encourages attendees to examine and promote strategies for teaching and learning that allow for "educationally purposeful relationships" (Felten & Lambert, 2021, p. 16) among and across students, faculty, staff, and student leaders. Approaches might consider ways we can design welcoming atmospheres on our campuses, in classrooms, in teaching and learning centers, and in academic support programs across campus.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Summit
October 6-7, 2022; virtual
Registration is $50

The SoTL Summit offers a space to share results from SoTL projects and discuss innovative teaching techniques. The conference maintains a developmental focus to help participants at all levels of SoTL experience grow as teacher-scholars, offering how-to interactive workshops as well as sessions on individual and collaborative SoTL projects and cutting-edge topics in pedagogy and student learning.
 
ISSOTLAt the Intersections of SoTL: Transfer and Transformation, Diversity and Inclusivity
November 2-5, 2022; Syilx Okanagan Nation, Kelowna, British Columbia

This conference will explore the intersections of SoTL in higher education that represent our diverse and inclusive cultures, perspectives, knowledges, disciplines, methodologies, partners, and levels of focus. We will also explore the impact of our scholarship on advancing change across different teaching and learning contexts and communities.
