Don's Comments
As I listen to some of the classic square dance tunes mentioned above, I hear music that was recorded decades ago.  The music is still great.  However, the choreography is a little aggressive and some of the calls have not been used for years.  The call Curly Q comes to mind.  If you don't buy the music because of Curly Q, just remember, touch a quarter is the substitute.  I have done new vocals on a lot of these old recordings so that they have an easier routine to follow.  The latest one that I have added a new vocal to is He's Got The Whole World In His Hands.  The late Tom Dillander, before his untimely death, had asked me to do a new vocal for that one.  Tom would say KISS [keep it simple stupid].  I always try to keep that statement in mind when I call or record.

I am sure most of you know how to change a singing call figure when you don't like the one that's on the tune that you have paid $7.00 for.  Listed below are three singing call figures that were featured in the last mailing of Ralph Trout's Caller Teaching Program Note Service that you might use.  To subscribe to the note service contact Ralph
by email at ralphht2@yahoo.com

Basic Figure
Heads or Sides Promenade 1/2, Square Thru 4, Swing Thru, Boys Trade,
Boys Run, Bend the Line, Star Thru, Pass Thru, Trade By, Swing & Promenade

Mainstream Figure
Heads or Sides Square Thru, Swing Thru, Boys Run, Bend the Line,
Right and Left Thru, Pass the Ocean, Recycle, Swing & Promenade

Plus Figure
Heads or Sides Promenade 1/2, Square Thru 2, Touch 1/4,
Follow Your Neighbor, Trade the Wave, Slide Thru, Load the Boat,
Swing & Promenade

DON SINGS FROM THE HEART CD

Several  years ago I recorded this  album  at Circle Left Studios located in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Spring Hill, TN is a town just outside of Nashville so the studio gets the best pickers to work for them. There are 22 tracks on the CD.

I sang on the first 11 tracks and the other 11 tracks are for karaoke use. I use the karaoke at party dances and between tips at my dances. This music can be bought right from the Coyote-TNT web site by clicking onto the Don Coy CD button, or from Amazon and iTunes.    You can also get the CD directly from me.  Just contact me by phone, email or text. The cost direct to you is $8.99 which includes shipping charges.

KEEP THIS IN MIND

  • What do you call a line of men waiting to get a haircut?
    A barberqueue

  • Life is like a Rubik's cube.
If you get one side of it all smooth and organized, you usually mess up all the other sides in the process.

  • and just remember, IF THE COYOTE DOESN'T GET YOU THE TNT WILL.

GOD BE WITH YOU TIL WE MEET AGAIN.
