Get into the swing of Spring.

Paddle Host Workshop, Part I

Explore North Coast had the first part of their Paddle Host Training at Big Lagoon on March 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Mike and Larry co-hosted this event with Marcella assisting. Over 16 people joined the event, interested in how to create a safe and fun event.

Everyone gathered and discussed  risk assessment, leadership roles, the importance of communication, the necessary gear needed, and more. On the water, ENC members practiced paddling techniques from bracing, forward and reverse strokes, draws, and ways to maneuver around each other. The wind picked up and provided more challenges towards practicing these skills, demonstrating the importance being comfortable using them. Everyone later had a chance to see how assisted rescues worked and some participated in practicing with each other.

Further practice will be held on March 26 in Trinidad, weather permitting, for ENC members to continue practicing skills in more challenging environments. For more information please check out ENC's calendar.
