Blue Mountains Camino 5-Day Walk March 2022.
Photos:  L: End of Day 5 March 2022 walkers (a few missed out on photoshoot) R: Eileen & Richard, Hospitaleros at Glenella Albergue for March 5-Day Walk.
Twenty four pilgrims joined us for the March Blue Mountains Camino 5-Day Walk, coming from various areas of Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Kanimbla, 2 from Canberra and 1 from Melbourne. Because four from the organising team were away, we were very fortunate to have Eileen and Richard, trained and experienced Hospitalerios on the Camino in Spain, come to Glenella Albergue to be Hospitalerios for the week.

They say the Camino provides and that it did! Due to the extensive rains in the Blue Mountains leading up to the March 5-Day Walk where there were landslips and some high creeks and waterways, muddy tracks abound.  There were no train services for about 3 weeks including of course the week of our 5-Day Walk, however replacement buses, in fact 2 buses from Blackheath were the order of the week.  Carpooling arrangements were made for Day 1 and some slight re-mapping of walking routes by our map extraordinaire, Nick.

It wouldn't be the Blue Mountains not to experience various weather conditions.  Days 1 and 2 were 30 degrees and as the pilgrims made their way up the mountains by Days 3 and 4 the rain and drizzle set in so a great test of wet weather gear!

A WhatsApp group for the March Walkers proved a useful tool for communication and Rosie sent Reflection of the Day each morning.

Another successful and fulfilling, from the organisers view, Blue Mountains Camino 5-Day Walk completed!  We thank each and every pilgrim for their participation and feedback to the survey which will help us in planning the next 5-Day Walk.  🙏

Some generous feedback from a few of the March 5-Day pilgrims:
  • I’m so grateful for diverse experiences and interactions this week - my tank has been refueled.   I want to especially give a shout out and thanks for the huge efforts of the BMCS team and Eileen & Richard. 🙏 Mark
  • Thank you all who extended the hand of friendship these last few days and thank you and congratulations to our accommodation and track hospitalaros… Great 5 days.. astonishing amount of work on and off the trail… buen camino to those travelling this year.   David
  • Thank you one and all for making this Camino another great success and for caring, sharing and your friendship throughout the week.  Marina
  • Thank you one and all for a lovely week. To single out any one person would be like saying you had a favourite child, because love them all. We will carry the spirit on our next adventure in 3 weeks; Buen CaminoT   Terry
  • I thank you all, particularly the leaders of the Blue Mountains Camino group, our hosts and hospitaleros and others who did so much support work to make it all happen, both before and during the week. With some time to look back, I can say that it was a wonderful adventure, not just physically but also emotionally and spiritually. Thank you for sharing yourselves and accepting each other's idiosyncrasies, particularly my own.  God go with you all.  Brad
The Camino provides, especially for Maureen.....
  • Camino Magic has commenced. In my rush to grab my luggage when the train reached Central yesterday I left my small shoulder bag on the train. I reported the loss at Town Hall and thought I would never see it again. It had my phone, debit card, opal cards, house key and cash. I thought I would never see it again! Nor the cash in my cash account!  iPad "findmyphone" discovered the phone had done the City Circle and gone back on the Penrith line to St Mary's. My son rang the station and they had the bag and phone. When I picked it up just now from St Mary's station everything was in it including my pilgrim's Passport (Credential) and stone with the shell!  I said to my son last night that I will be happy to get it back and I don't mind if the kind, honest soul who returned it to the station (after a round about rideon the train) takes the cash as a reward. And they did! I don't begrudge it for a minute.   So very grateful. Maybe if the passport and shell weren't in the bag it may have met a sorrier end!   Update:  The money was returned (Rail staff had locked it away).    It was wonderful to meet you all and enjoy the Camino Spirit in the Blue Mountains. I feel far better prepared and confident to head off to Spain on 24 April. Rapidly approaching!
There were 26 day walkers joining in the last Saturday of the month from Katoomba to Blackheath and they joined in the Celebratory lunch with the pilgrims on their last day of the 5-Day Walk. Thanks to Rosie and Sharise for leading the 2 groups of walkers.
