Fordham University Sailing Team

Dear Friends of Fordham Sailing,

It was a tough weather weekend up and down the east coast for college sailing and our events were no exception. Unfortunately, due to the cold front that brought sustained wind in the 20s and 30s with temperature below freezing all weekend in New York, the NYC Open Team Race was cancelled. The St. Mary's Team Race faced similar conditions on Saturday, forcing the day of racing to be cancelled and the event to be shortened to one day. Fortunately, the front passed through overnight and Sunday brought pristine sailing conditions, allowing for one round to be completed. The Rams sailed well, distinctly improving their results from the previous weekend, ending the round at 3-5 with 8 very hard fought races. This left the rams in a three way unbreakable tie for 6th with St. Mary's and George Washington. After a one round sail off was completed, the teams remained deadlocked so the tie was broken by total points sailed in races amongst the tied teams, meaning the rams finished 8th overall. Although this result is disappointing, it certainly does not reflect how well the team sailed. We are leaving this weekend much more confident and excited to spend this upcoming week training at Old Dominion University for our spring break. The write up for the event courtesy of Eddie Harrison '22 and the tech score link can be viewed below.

St. Mary's Team Race
The Rams drove down to Maryland this weekend to sail in the Saint Mary's Team Race Interconference. With teams coming in from MAISA, NEISA, and SEISA, this regatta proved to be a very welcome challenge for our team race team. After a snowy day of postponement on Saturday, the Rams went into Sunday with optimism and excitement. This regatta was a chance to compete against our conference rivals as well as some very talented out-of-conference teams. The day was a marked improvement from last week, although the Rams ended up losing out to GWU and St. Mary's in an unfortunate tiebreaker. As we head into spring break, the team only looks to get better as we start to enter the middle of our team race season. A training trip to ODU followed by a regatta at Navy will be crucial points in this Spring season.
