💌 Welcome to Issue #56 of The Conscious Edit
🌱 Spring is quickly approaching here in the Northern Hemisphere and with the change of seasons — especially spring and fall — there's always a push from Big Fashion to buy all of the latest and greatest seasonal trends.
But as Contributing Writer Stella broke down for us recently, these trend cycles — and their increasing speed — are contributing to the rise of ultra fast fashion (and the waste that comes with it).
👀 So I just wanted to pop in a reminder that a change in weather does *not* require new clothing!
Now this isn't at all about shaming anyone for buying something or telling you that you can't buy anything. That's never been my message, and in all transparency, I also have a few things on my wishlist that I am weighing over.
➡️ Rather, I want to counteract the marketing out there that tells us we NEED the latest 'it' accessories or the color/print/styles of the season...
There are actually a lot of different ways to celebrate a change of seasons and experience novelty, if that's what you're craving.
🌸 Here's how I'm celebrating the first signs of spring... 🌸
🥬 Signing up for a CSA (which stands for Community Supported Agriculture) so I can get local, seasonal veggies this summer and fall.
(If you also live in the Chicagoland area, check out Angelic Organics. They are a certified organic farm using biodynamic practices! Or find a CSA near you using this directory.)
🍅 Planting seeds to grow some of our own tomatoes and peppers on our balcony. [Here's a guide on where to find local, organic seeds across North America]
🧹 Doing some spring cleaning and organizing because who wants to be doing that stuff in a few weeks the weather is so beautiful outside?!
👚 Rediscovering my favorite warm weather clothing after taking out the bin I've been storing under the bed. Each year, it truly gives me the same feeling as buying new things, I swear...
🎧 Listening to fresh, mood-boosting music. I've had mxmtoon on repeat!
