Share The Cities Community Education:
  • A new Community Education effort launched: Wallingford For All. This includes 45 new volunteers, rad webpages, a few op eds, several days of canvassing, 2 tabling events, and media interest. Join us online tomorrow 3/15/2022 to learn about the tax implications of historic districts. TikTok editor needed to help a couple of volunteers with a short storytelling project. Staff time spent on this effort is funded by donations to Share The Cities Community Education. Thanks to two folks who have put forward $1K donor matches! We've also received several donations of $500. We appreciate any amount you can give.
  • Affordable Talaris continues to meet every other Monday. We often have special guests. Reach out to learn more!
Share The Cities Action Fund:
  • We continue to mobilize people to attend and fund the House Our Neighbors Social Housing efforts. They need tabling support on March 16th from 4-6 pm. Sign up here.
  • Great work is happening with Stay Housed Stay Healthy coalition's model legislation work to protect tenants throughout King County. Please join us for upcoming door knocking event in Kent on March 26 with Working Families Party
  • Thanks for taking action with us to champion many bills this session. Upgrade King County published an op ed in The Urbanist in support of digital equity and the Action Fund had an impromptu phone zap to try to revive HB 1099. We helped pass the Interbay PDA bill -- HB 1773 and the Digital Equity bill -- HB 1723, both now waiting to be signed by Governor Inslee.
  • Please check out WA Community Alliance's legislative tracker for more info about this session and The Tally that has a harsh but truthful look at how the legislature failed this session.
  • This week we posted our Action Fund's Tree Canopy advocacy toolkit and public comments are due to the City of Seattle by April 4, our founder, Laura's birthday. She loves trees.
  • Reminder that we submitted DEIS Comments to council for the maritime and industrial lands strategy. Stay tuned for more opportunities to give feedback on this plan.
  • We provide about 5 hours a month support to Seattle Cruise Control. Looks like terminal 46 will be on pause indefinitely for cruise ships - a big win!
  • Stop The Sweeps! The City of Seattle continues horrific and violent evictions of people who are living outside with nowhere else to go. Please follow Stop The Sweeps on Instagram. Donate to support their mutual aid. We thank them for witnessing and documenting destructive sweeps.

Share The Cities Action Fund needs funds
As we've said before, it is difficult to raise funds from grants for political mobilization. Please donate to support our lobbying, political mobilization and coalition support work. We need to raise $45K this year by December 15.

Join us at YIMBYTOWN April 11-13 in Portland, Oregon.

Thanks to our sustaining donations we are able to help many volunteer-led efforts. Our Action Fund supports legislative change & our Community Education organization hosts in-person and online learning opportunities.

Please visit the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, take action to defund SPD by at least 50%, and work with folks living outside in your community to make sure they are safe. Support Seattle Transit Riders Union Solidarity Fund to distribute propane & food to houseless neighbors. Check out past newsletters here. Need help during these tough times? Please reach out, and we will try to connect you to resources as best we are able.
