The BAAIT-S Board and Powwow Committee Thank You

Although we missed seeing everyone in-person again this year, our 11th Annual Powwow was a huge success. Thank you for allowing us to create a safe space for our community, even as a virtual gathering. Your support is the reason we're able to do what we do, and your belief in our mission helps bring our family even closer together.
In case you missed it, here's the full-length stream of our 11th Annual Powwow. Click the link below for more virtual events we hosted this year!

Besides our annual Powwow, BAAIT-S is expanding its organization to create more workshops and events throughout the year. If you're able, please consider a one-time or recurring donation to help us make it possible. And if you'd prefer a tax-deductible or corporate donation, please email us for more info. Thank you for your continued support!

A Little History . . .

The National Native American HIV/AIDS Awareness
was announced by the National Native American AIDS Prevention Center (NNAAPC) in 2007. BAAIT-S, the Native American AIDS Project (NAAP), and the Native American Health Center worked together on a project called "Shake the Feathers." BAAIT-S wanted to recognize this day with a sunrise ceremony and discussion. Under the leadership of Landa Lakes and Derek Smith, the three organizations began working with Joan Benoit, Executive Director of NAAP, and Dennis Manuelito, the director of HIV services at the Health Center. That cold Thursday morning, many gathered from both the Indigenous community and the United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance (UTOPIA) in Dolores Park with drum and light refreshments. Afterward, a discussion was held with breakfast at the LGBT Community Center--where BAAIT-S had its offices at the time--and the first National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Gathering was born!
