Leading Cultural Change Through Professional Societies Of Biology (BIO-LEAPS) To Host WEBINAR
Event Date: Friday, April 22 @3:00 pm- 4:00 pm
Registration is required

Hosted by: National Science Foundation (NSF)

The program aims to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in biology at scale through culture change by leveraging the leadership, broad reach, and unique ability of professional societies. Professional societies are uniquely positioned to help facilitate culture change in their disciplines through: publishing journals, fostering scientific discussion and debate, broad membership (including membership from academia, government agencies, and private businesses), hosting large scientific meetings that can serve as networking and professional development opportunities for people at many professional levels, and electing leaders that greatly influence views and norms within a discipline. As we recognize that disciplines and societies may be at different points in assessing and addressing their culture, the program has three tracks — Evaluation, Design and Plan, and Implementation. The Evaluation Track is for projects focused on assessment and research of the values, norms, priorities, and practices associated with the culture of the discipline or sub-discipline. The Design Track is for projects to develop an evidence-based plan to address broad-scale culture change within a discipline or sub-discipline. The Implementation Track is for projects to implement evidence-based cultural change strategies that leverage the influence of biological professional societies.

The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from early-career faculty at all CAREER-eligible organizations and especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities to apply. The workshop is intended to provide guidance and mentorship to prospective CAREER applicants to the NSF Directorate for Education and Human Resources. It will serve as an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the program, including eligibility requirements, the application process, and outcomes of past CAREER awardees, and for participants to interact with other applicants, former awardees, and NSF program officers.

Making it count: Research credit management in a collaborative world

Provided by Clarivate

About this Webinar

It is essential that researchers receive proper recognition for the work they deliver. However, the continued rise in collaboration and multi-author papers makes it difficult for research managers, institutions, and policy analysts to allocate credit, and no formally correct method exists. Understanding the available approaches and their characteristics is essential knowledge for research managers in a period when international collaboration is becoming a dominant feature of global research.

In this webinar, experts who have contributed to the development of indicators of research credit will discuss the merits and limitations of the methods most used today and present a new method that accounts for domestic versus international collaboration.
