Dear Friends,
We want to give you an update about what we are doing and how you can help. We do not have pictures to share with you, but we're sure you have seen more than your heart can bear already. This will be as quick and to the point as possible, as we have a lot going on.
The nearest Ukrainian border is just over two hours from Constanta. Compared to other borders in Romania, not so many people were coming through these borders in the beginning. But as the war continues and more areas in Ukraine start to be affected, a continuous flow of people is also coming as well through this border.
As YWAM Constanta our heart has been from the beginning to practically help where needed during this crisis and engage in prayer for Ukraine and Russia and all those affected by this war.
In the last week we have been partnering with a local church that has welcomed many Ukrainians, helping them with rides from the Ukrainian border to Constanta, where they are offered a place to stay until they have clarity about their next step. We are currently housing five international students who had to leave Ukraine and are ready to welcome more Ukrainians as more rooms in our base free up this week.
We also have been serving locally at a resource center the local authorities opened. It’s a place where people from Constanta can donate supplies for Ukraine. These supplies can be picked up by Ukrainian refugees staying in Constanta and a part of it is used to go on trucks to Ukraine to provide people with food and other necessities. It has been a good way to both come alongside an initiative of the local authorities in looking after our Ukrainian neighbors as well as a way of getting in touch with the Ukrainian refugees in our city. We have seen that apart from a need for practical necessities, there is a huge need for people that see them and stand beside them in encouragement, prayer and support.
Some of you have asked how you can give toward these needs. There are two ways we want to share with you:
