FCCA March 2022 Newsletter

March certainly came in like a lion this year. We're sure we're not the only ones who would love it if it went out like a lamb! In this newsletter we have some announcements seeking new Board Members, a final farewell to our ice rinks for the season & ever-changing COVID mandates for Ontario.

President's Corner

Dear Findlay Creek Community Association Members,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the current FCCA Board has been dissolved and a Special Meeting has been called for March 30th, 2022 at 7pm to vote for new Board Members.

We are currently looking for five positions to fill out the Board that are as follows; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Communications Director.

In the interim, the previous Vice President and I have stepped back into our previous roles to help continue to serve Findlay Creek.

If you are interested in serving on our Board, we invite you to fill in your information to be submitted along with other potential nominees HERE.

Findlay Updates

The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is warning the public to beware of their personal safety when buying and selling cell phones and other electronics. Sgt. Kilby with OPS suggests bringing a friend and meeting in public rather than vacant properties or parking lots. Trust your gut and never continue if something feels wrong.

The City of Ottawa has notified residents of the Bank Street Widening & Reconstruction Project slated to begin Spring of 2023 that there will be geotechnical borehole work along various parts of Bank Street for approximately 5 weeks beginning on February 2nd, 2022. Residents should expect lane reductions and some noise during this work. It is not anticipated to impact private property. For more information visit the City of Ottawa.

The Findlay Creek rinks are winding down for the season, but what an excellent job all the volunteers have done maintaining them. We thank them for being a constant source of relief and fun for a lot of families throughout this crazy winter of restrictions. It's that time of year, folks! The big melt will soon be here. Be sure to check your basement often during rainy and wet days. Go around your home and try to remove as much ice or snow build up around your down spouts. Be sure to call a pro right away if you're having any water issues!

By now many of us have already been out enjoying our Boardwalk and even paths around our neighbourhood. Last month we highlighted the many winter trails available. This month, we'd like to link another Interactive Map will keep you busy discovering all that Ottawa has to offer!

Ottawa Public Health Updates

Dr. Vera Etches delivered a Special Statement on March 9, 2022 in response to Ontario's next steps to ease public health measures.

A great tip for assessing risk is to look at the 3 C's:
1- Crowded Spaces
2- Close Contact/Conversation
3- Confined Spaces

Ontario will remove the mandatory masking requirement for most settings on March 21st, with the exception of select settings such as public transit, health care settings, long-term care homes and congregate care settings.
