Tough Questions
"How do you know you have found the person you should marry?” “How can I overcome sexual addiction?”
It has been a season of helping our students work through tough questions! At Thursday Cru, we answered student-submitted questions about love, sex, and dating. I was struck by how many of the questions were about pain: How to handle being single when those around you are dating? How to experience forgiveness after the pain of sexual sin? It was a gift to apply the good news of the restoration available in Christ to all these questions.
Students’ pain definitely extends to the area of mental health. We are so glad that about 30 students participated in the Mental Health and Jesus groups that met throughout the first 5 weeks of the semester. Some students participated who are brand new to Cru, including a few who are not Christians yet but who are curious about faith.
Jeff’s group of student men were surprisingly comfortable discussing issues of mental health. They enjoyed learning about growing their mental resilience through community and also handling anxiety through prayer and studying the Psalms.
The whole Mental Health and Jesus initiative felt especially relevant as we had a student recently tell her whole Cru Community Group about her recent attempt to take her own life. Then, one of the men I mentor asked for my help processing his friend’s self-harm attempt. The need is so great among students right now. Please pray for students to find freedom and peace through a genuine relationship with Christ.
