One Person Who Changed My Life

<<First Name>>, think of a person who had a HUGE impact on you...and if not for them, your life's trajectory would be totally different.

For me, one person comes to mind instantly. His name is Johnny. Before meeting Johnny, I was in 9th grade, doing normal 9th grade stuff like learning and goofing off. But that was pretty much it. There was no spark, and definitely very little ambition.

I met Johnny while attending youth services at a new church and he said, "Hey, BB...we could use some help at the screenprinting shop. Are you interested?" And so that started a snowball of awesomeness that I'll never forget and can never repay.

I was now part of a team that depended on me. I had to problem solve ALL KINDS of issues with shirt printing. For reals, I was slinging ink in a non-conditioned metal building in South Georgia, playing my RCA boombox, literally sweating all over these shirts and I loved every second of it. I could list all of the #ThingsThatCantBeGoogled that I learned, but this would be an essay...not nuggets.

Why am I saying all of this? A single person can have an exponentially positive effect on students. Whether its in-person relationship building, work related, or just exposing students to interesting and inspiring people...the time spent is not in vain.

Actionable: An easy way to get new people, ideas, etc. in front of your students is by hosting a Virtual Career Fair. Simply, people send in short videos (under 5 min) and schools/systems can have a HUGE catalog that can be shared district wide. Teachers can then share regularly, perhaps once a week. See flyer from one of our local schools. FLYER

PS: If you're the praying type, Johnny has some serious medical issues and could use some of those prayers.
