COMING NEXT WEEK!
Thursday March 17th at 5:30 p.m., you're invited to bring a dish and to come share a meal in the Great Hall. This pilot of an all ages “Common Table 2.0” is an opportunity not only to get to know one another, but also to explore next steps in what Christian belonging can mean for us at Emmanuel. Evening Prayer is at 5:15; you're welcome to begin there.
LITANY ON SUNDAY
At Emmanuel we begin Mass on the 2nd and 5th Sundays in Lent by chanting the Great Litany, which replaces the Prayers of the People and Confession. This text was the first specifically Anglican rite for public worship, drafted by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer in 1544 and thus predating the Book of Common Prayer.
LENTEN FOCUS
Last week after service, we talked about how we distract ourselves from God and from each other and from what's happening around us. Apparently many of us distract ourselves with the same things! We also began the conversation of how we might fast from those distractions. This week, for our second week focused on fasting, we encourage you to choose a distraction to fast from. What will you choose? And how will you look to God in the times when you want what you've given up? Look for the Intergenerational Formation team members after service on Sunday if you want to talk it through or need ideas!
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Fridays in Lent, join us in the nave at 12:15 p.m. to pray Stations of the Cross. This half-hour service, ideal for a lunch hour, walks participants through meditations on the final hours of Jesus' life.
LENT BOOKS
There's still time to get started on
Toolkit for Spiritual Growth: A Practical Guide to Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving, our adult Lenten book; a reading guide is available in the Great Hall or by email. For
households with kids, we recommend
Make Room: A Child's Guide to Lent and Easter. Build your Christian tools with us!
YOUNG ADULTS AT EMMANUEL
Pub Theology is today, March 10th at 7 p.m. We're meeting at
Caffe Paradiso to discuss Luke chapters 16-18 (which are super appropriate for Lent, let me tell you). If you haven't come before, don't let that deter you! All are welcome (as are any friends you might like to invite). Questions? Contact Marisa."
