A lot has changed since 1940, but one thing that remains the same is the South End water main, which brings clean water into the entire neighborhood. Last year, the City of Charlotte began work on the South End Water Main Project, or SWM, in an effort to replace the water main needed to safely brush your teeth, brew your favorite beers, and a lot more.
This phase of construction is expected to last for three months, and will continue north after that. Expect traffic barrier walls through the intersection of Iverson Way, ending at the Atherton Lofts roadway entrance. Pedestrian access will remain open.
