Bringing Out the Best in Wild Birds on Farms
A recent study published by Dr. Elissa Olimpi, postdoctoral scholar and lead author, shows farms with surrounding natural habitat experience the most benefits from birds, including less crop damage and lower food-safety risks. Having a better understanding of the roles birds play in ecosystems can help farmers benefit from the birds surrounding their fields. Read more about the study.

Take the Graduate Studies Administrative Services Survey
You're invited to participate in the inaugural UC Davis Graduate Studies Administrative Services Survey. The purpose of this annual survey is to solicit constructive feedback on the effectiveness of the administrative services provided by Graduate Studies and understand the ways in which Graduate Studies can improve its campus partnerships. The survey will be available through March 31 and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Participants who complete the survey will be entered to win one of ten $50 Amazon gift cards. Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research

The Sigma Xi program awards grants of up to $1,000 to science and engineering students. Funding can pay for travel expenses to and from a research site or for purchases of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

Universities Research Association (URA) offers a paid summer fellowship at Sandia National Laboratories’ New Mexico site. The program provides graduate student research experience in the science, technology, and engineering areas that support Sandia National Laboratories’ Research Foundations.

DOE NNSA Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship

NNSA seeks candidates who demonstrate the skills and potential to form the next generation of leaders in Engineering and Applied Sciences, Physics, Materials, and Mathematics and Computational Science. Funding is provided for up to four years and includes a stipend of $36,000, full tuition and fees, and $2,000 research allowance. 

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholars

Health Policy Research Scholars is a leadership opportunity for second- or third-year full-time doctoral students from populations underrepresented in specific doctoral disciplines and/or marginalized backgrounds. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $30,000 for up to four years.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad

Save the Date: Let's Talk About Racism in the Classroom

We invite graduate students and postdoctoral scholars from all departments to join us for an in-person workshop about dealing with racism in the classroom. The workshop will provide a platform to candidly converse about experiencing, dealing, and managing racism in the classroom whether it is directed towards instructors, TAs, undergraduate students of color, or members of marginalized groups. The goal is to work in community and provide tangible tools for teaching under hostile circumstances.
