Ukrainian Refugee Crisis in Siret Romania

UKRAINE REFUGEE CRISIS APPEAL

Regular updates on Facebook & Twitter

School for Life Romania are currently offering shelter and assistance to Ukraine Refugees as the crisis unfolds in Siret town where we are based at the Ukrainian Romanian border, just 3km from our project.

Tens of thousands of women, children, elderly and people of multiple nationalities have entered Romania at Siret crossing, who need urgent assistance, food & shelter.

Siret is a small town with a population of approx. 8000, many local people are supporting the refugees where they can and also have Ukrainian family and friends, however more assistance is needed to support the thousands of refugees arriving each day to prevent a humanitarian crisis.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated towards supporting our work and this current crisis.

Dear <<First Name>>

Due to the current war in Ukraine & the Refugee Crisis that has unfolded in the town of Siret where we are based, just 3 km from the Romanian Ukrainian border, our staff in Siret are currently offering assistance & shelter to some of the tens of thousands of refugees arriving and passing through.

Many individuals, community groups, local services & NGO’s in the community are feeding, housing & transporting refugees, many financed from their personal accounts.

Camps have also been set up on the border with the help of international organisations such as The Red Cross.

Refugees have been travelling for days & waiting for hours, some days, in snow & ice without shelter in Ukraine to cross into Romania at Siret border. Temperatures are due to drop to -8 this week.

Many are families with young children of all different nationalities fleeing the bombardments & war. Ukrainian men are not allowed to leave the country and are being conscripted into the army.

We have therefore agreed to offer our school, supported housing buildings & resources for shelter and assistance during this humanitarian crisis.

Our Director, Elena Harasemiuc, has been liaising with Siret Town Hall who are all working hard to co-ordinate support in Siret Town & prevent a humanitarian disaster. Our staff & young women who live in our supported housing have been helping out preparing beds, food & buying essential items.

Lenuta, one of our beneficiaries, wanting to help, bought food and supplies for the refugees from her savings & walked to the border & back to deliver them. The other young women living with us, have volunteered to give up their bedrooms and share so we can offer more families a bed and shelter.

They have also been helping to care and entertain the young children and their pets (three cats and a dog!) who are staying with us using our school facilities.

We have therefore set up an Appeal to support the Ukraine Refugee Crisis in Siret, Romania.

We aim to support our sister, Romanian reg. humanitarian organisation,  Scoala Pentru Viata, partner agencies, local community & our beneficiaries where we can, and provide contingency funds for the projects future needs during this crisis. Any remaining funds will go to the ongoing work with our charity when the crisis has settled.

We are all hoping for peace in the near future

This is a fast moving crisis, and reports to date are that refugees arriving in Romania have reached 150,000+ with numbers still increasing.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated towards supporting our work and this current crisis
