ELCA World Hunger

We invite you to studypray, reflect and give with us during ELCA World Hunger’s 40 Days of Giving — for our families, our neighbors and communities around the world.
As the world has reeled from the effects of a deadly pandemic, we have seen the number of hungry people around the world rise, watched as food pantries and soup kitchens expanded to serve an ever-growing number of guests, and longed together for the time when we “will hunger no more, and thirst no more ... and God will wipe away every tear from [our] eyes” (Revelation 7:16-17).
This very yearning is at the heart of who we are as church together. Yet our longing has never led to inertia or despair, despite the discouraging forecasts. We are an Easter people, ever journeying toward the cross but trusting in faith that God’s story does not end on that hill.

Commit
to a giving goal for the Lenten season in support of ELCA World Hunger, set aside a portion each day, or make your gifts throughout the season as part of your regular Lenten practice.

You may give to ELCA World Hunger in-person through our St. Luke Bucket of Change (a.k.a. “noisy offering) in March or on-line at www.stlukeabq.org (choose “give now,” then “Bucket of Change”).

If I am hungry, that is a material problem; if someone else is hungry, that is a spiritual problem. -- (the late Dr. Paul Farmer, medical pioneer with the poor)

St. Luke Needs Ushers and Greeters

For Our Community, Country and the World
Lord, we lift up the people of Ukraine and its leaders.  Give them strength, courage and hope. Be with the injured and those mourning from loss. We also pray for President Putin.  Soften his heart towards all countries of the world.  Hold all people in your hands, no matter where they live.  In Jesus name.  Amen.

Lord, it is with a glad heart that we celebrate “our” Afghan Refugee family as they have moved in their apartment.  Be with this family of 7 as they start their new life here.  We give thanks for all the members of St Luke church as they support this great mission. Walk beside all of us as we establish a relationship with one another.  Amen.

We pray for ELCA World Hunger, our Bucket of Change recipient for March 2022.

Because our Lord Jesus commanded us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us, we ask you, Lord to always remind us that you created them in your image, that Christ died for them, that they are beloved of God just like us, so that we might with sincerity pray, Lord have mercy on them.

Our Father, we pray for those with cancer.  Heal them in body, mind and spirit.  Give them the courage and strength to fight this disease.  Show them that it is not weak to ask for help and put in their paths many helpers.  Embrace them with your loving arms.  Amen.

MY DEAR LORD GOD, CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, CREATOR OF ME, I AM FILLED WITH HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE FOR YOUR BOUNTIFUL BLESSINGS. I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL I HAVE, ALL I AM AND ALL I WILL BE IS A GIFT FROM YOU.  AMEN.
