ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING ALUMNUS, SHARES HIS TWO-YEAR EXPERIENCE IN THAILAND
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Electrical Engineering alumnus, Nikhil Jaden Naidoo recently returned from Thailand after completing his Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), located in the North Eastern region of Thailand.
Naidoo (25) from Chatsworth, Durban was awarded the Nelson Mandela Thailand Post-Graduate Scholarship in October 2019. His Master’s degree was based on researching quantum dot solar cell efficiency and fabrication techniques. He spent two years in a province called Nakhon Ratchasima, in Thailand completing his Master’s degree.
DUT WINS FIRST MATCH AGAINST RHODES IN 2022 FNB VARSITY SHIELD TOURNAMENT
FNB Durban University of Technology (DUT) rugby team is all smiles after winning their first game of the 2022 FNB Varsity Shield tournament, which took place at the Great Field Makhanda in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, last Sunday, 06 March 2022.
The FNB DUT rugby team participated for the second consecutive year in South Africa’s second tier university rugby tournament.
FNB DUT played their first game of the tournament against Round 1 and 2 hosts, FNB Rhodes. With all the hard work FNB DUT had put in, the team won 8-5 against FNB Rhodes.
JICA AND DUT TO HOST THE SATREPS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER WORKSHOP
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will be hosting the SATREPS “Production of biofuels from algae biomass” Technology Transfer hybrid event on Thursday, 17 March 2022.
This joint research project is in collaboration with eThekwini Municipality, the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) and Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) in South Africa. Counterparts in Japan also playing a vital role in the project include Nagoya University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, and Aichi Shukutoku University.
TWO DUT STUDENTS STITCH THEIR WAY INTO THE NATIONALS OF THE WORLD SKILLS FASHION TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION
Two Durban University of Technology (DUT) Fashion and Textiles students have stitched their way into the top six and will be competing in the National World Skills Fashion Technology Competition in September 2022.
The announcement of the top six finalists was made at the three-day regional World Skills Fashion Technology Competition which was held at the DUT Brickfield Campus from Friday, 04 March 2022 to Sunday, 06 March 2022 and third year Julia Whitby along with second-year Sibahle Simamane will represent the University at the finals.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am the Faculty Officer at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE). My function or role is managing the administrative function for 10 departments within the FEBE in Durban and PMB campuses.”
