Traveling to Commemorate Dr. King

Last week over 200 students from 6 different area middle and high schools had the privilege of hearing Pulitzer journalist, Michelle Tyrene Johnson, talk virtually about her travels to study Dr Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy around the world. Michelle's enthusiasm stayed strong through 8 separate presentations. Dane from Lindbergh High School summed up the experience by saying,

I really appreciate Michelle Tyrene Johnson delivering her presentation to our class. It was very informative.  I learned that MLK was more of an international figure than I originally thought, and was a symbol of human rights around the world. It was interesting to learn that many people in foreign countries were not sure what he stood for but had heard his name. I liked that you had a strong stance on the topic, and did a great job of staying neutral and not letting your own beliefs lead the presentation. Thank you!

A delegate from Ukraine addressing the General Assembly at the November 20, 2021 Model UN session.

Our spring high school Model UN session will be held at Webster University's Browning Auditorium on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 9:00 am until noon. This is the same location as the fall sessions. All are invited, including students who did not attend an earlier session. Anyone can submit a resolution; however, we will prioritize resolutions submitted in the fall that were not discussed. Students should represent the same country they did at the November or December sessions, or if new to the program, contact Civitas for a list of available countries. If there are duplicate sign ups for the same country from different schools, we will notify you. We can have duplicates, or you might choose to represent a different country if you find out yours is already taken.

Resolutions are due by midnight on Wednesday, March 30.
Please email them to Stephanie at gavinstephanie89@gmail.com.
