We have had numerous members reach out for clarity since the Prime Minister’s announcement in the last week of February, cancelling all Covid restrictions in England. It isn’t surprising then that as the rest of the country returns to some semblance of normality, we in the dental profession might be feeling slightly left behind. The current situation for the dental profession is that no changes have been made to the IPC Guidance, which means the regulations put in place during the pandemic, although deescalated, are still applicable.
Because of all the questions, we have put together a summary document to provide a quick reference for the most common queries. The document can be found HERE.

Mission and Goals of the BAPD
|
|
As many of our members will remember, the organisation was created in the eye of the covid storm, at a time when representation for private dentists was non-existent but absolutely crucial.
Following our first face to face Board meeting and a very successful strategy day, the goals and mission of the organisation have been reaffirmed and spelled out clearly. We remain a political organisation and continue to strive to represent private dentistry at government and regulatory level.
Mission
The primary Mission of The BAPD is to represent, guide, protect, and support dental professionals in the private dental sector across the UK, and to promote the delivery of quality dentistry for all patients. We will do this in 3 ways:
To ensure our voice is heard as a key contributor in decision-making for dentistry at government and regulator level.
To share knowledge, support, advance and empower all dental professionals.
To inform and educate the public on the value of quality dentistry.
In addition to our political arm, we are working on education resources to promote high quality dental care as well as helping to guide those looking to transition to private practice.
We have also engaged with younger members of the profession who have approached us expressing disillusion and “feeling trapped” in unworkable situations. To this end we are looking at a mentorship scheme and other ways of supporting the next generation of the profession.

As people in a caring profession we are inclined to always put the needs of others first. Often this results in unintended mental and physical overload. Couple this with the demands of being a dental professional of any sort in the UK and the pressure gauge starts rising. If you’re feeling overwhelmed please talk to someone. Confidental offers a confidential emotional first aid service for dentists in distress. They can allow you to offload and talk through your issues in complete confidence and will then offer you signposting to further useful organisations if appropriate.
