 SPECIAL NOTICE: Calling All Bridge Players - The Council on Aging is excited to offer weekly bridge on Monday afternoons at Town Hall from 1:30-4:00pm.  Anyone with a working knowledge of the game is welcome. Call the COA to register or email Joan Ingersoll at jingersoll@carlislema.gov.

In addition, for beginners, there is a Carlisle resident whose business is teaching Bridge. Link here for cost, details, and contact information.

Monday, March 21 Haircuts on the Go - Fire Station - Hair stylists Suzanne Hickey & Georgia Triantafilles provide quick and clean cuts for $12 (plus a tip if you wish). Masks are required regardless of vaccination status. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to schedule your appointment.
 
Tuesday, March 22 Restaurant Review: Madras Grill - Van departure TBA - Madras Grill is an Indian food fest located in Chelmsford. Celebrate the Festival of Holi with lunch featuring mouth-watering North Indian and south Indian delicacies. You may drive on your own or sign up for the COA van. Van fee $5 payable to driver on the day of the trip. Only 12 seats available on the van. Call the COA a978-371-2895 to register by Tuesday, March 15.
 
Tuesday, March 22 Carlise School 7th Grade Play - 4:00pm Auditorium - Dress rehearsal is FREE for Seniors. If you would rather purchase tickets for Thursday March 24, Friday March 25, or Saturday March 26, link here for details.

Wednesday, March 23 Borderland Documentary - 2:00pm via Zoom or in-person (25 people max) at Library - Blanche Ames (1878-1969) was an artist, an activist, a builder, an inventor, a birth control maverick, and a leader of the woman suffrage movement in Massachusetts. She was a woman of privilege who was not afraid to shock polite society. Her name doesn't appear in most American history books. This, too, is part of her story. View this 55-minute documentary and engage in a virtual post-film Q&A with Borderland writer/narrator, Kate Klise. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to register by Wednesday, March 16.
 
Tuesday, March 29 New England Quilt Museum - Van departure TBA - In-person docent-led tour of this fascinating museum. Experience world-class exhibitions that explore the artistry, history, and significance of quilt making, past and present. The entire Museum is wheelchair accessible. Enjoy lunch at the historic Worthen House Café, Lowell’s oldest tavern and restaurant. Cash payment of $14 ($9 entrance fee + $5 van fee) will be collected by COA Program Manager, Linda Cavallo-Murphy, on the day of the trip. Only 11 seats available on the van. Monday, April 4 Garden Classes - Mondays April-June 10:00-11:30am Center Park - Friends of Center Park invite you to join Massachusetts Master Gardeners in a “hands-on and how-to” series of classes where creating and maintaining sun and shade gardens and landscapes will be discussed and demonstrated in a real garden setting rather than a classroom. Bring a chair to just sit nearby and observe, if you prefer, as the "hands-on" portion of this class is entirely optional. Dress for the weather, and bring garden gloves, your favorite bug repellent, hydration for yourself, and clippers if you have them. Registration limited to 10 Carlisle seniors. Tuesday, April 12 Virtual Art in Bloom - 10:00am via Zoom - Enjoy the beauty of The MFA’s Art in Bloom 2022 up close from home with an hour-long live virtual tour of gorgeous floral arrangements paired with the art that inspired them. Two guides - one an art expert, the other a floral expert - will describe each pairing. A lively Q&A will follow the tour. Once we are able to arrange the exact day/time, we will email you with this information. Please make sure we have your email address. Tuesday, March 15 The Highest Court: A Brief History of the Supreme Court - 1:00pm via Zoom - Sponsored by the Acton COA - The Supreme Court of the United States is one of three co-equal branches of government but is the least understood. The decisions and opinions of the court have shaped American society and government in a wide variety of ways. Tuesday, March 29 A Conversation with Ornithologist Scott Edwards - 7:00pm via Zoom (or in person at the Concord Museum) - The Concord Museum presents Harvard professor and Curator of Ornithology at the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Scott Edwards, discussing his research on the processes that have generated biodiversity using birds as models to study patterns of speciation, biogeography, evolution of the genome, and the process of adaptation. Thursday, March 31 Finding Beauty in a Broken World - 7:00pm via Zoom (or in person at the Concord Museum) - The Concord Museum presents Terry Tempest Williams, as she discusses her literary ancestors (Emerson, Thoreau, and Fuller) and her most recent essay collection, Erosion, in which she asks: "How do we find the strength to not look away from all that is breaking our hearts?"
