This week we celebrate two Gregory’s, both former early bishops of Christianity.
“On March 9, we remember Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa, c. 394. Born about
334 in Caesarea, a brother to Basil the Great, Gregory became besotted by Christ and his Passion. His faith was heartened when he was 20 by the transfer of relics of the forty Martyrs of Sebaste, and dismissed ministry to become a rhetorician like his father.
Basil convinced Gregory to become Bishop of Nyssa. Gregory was miserable upon ordination as he felt unworthy, knowing little of tact or budgets. Basil and Macrina, their sister, died in 379; his siblings’ deaths opened the way for Gregory to develop as a philosopher and theologian (his Great Catechism is one of his most respected treatises). Gregory was honored as a “pillar of the church” in 381.
We remember Gregory, Bishop of Rome, born in 540, on March 12. He was one of two popes, with Leo the First, to be popularly called “great.” Both men reigned during the invasion of Italy, and Gregory served during pestilence and famine. Gregory became Prefect in 573 and Ambassador to Constantinople in 590. His pontificate was marked by vigorous service in defense of Rome against the Lombards and people from the papal granaries in Sicily. Gregory supported evangelism of the Anglo-Saxon who called him ‘Apostle to the English’ buried in St. Peter’s Basilica.”

Communion on Sunday Mornings
|
|
|
We are now receiving Communion in both kinds, bread and wine. You may consume either or both -- just let us know which you want when you come up for Communion. We will continue for the time being proceeding toward the altar rail in a straight line.
Please open your palms and hold them up to receive the bread. (Please do not try to take the bread out of the priest’s hand with your fingers.) If you are also going to receive the wine, move to
the person distributing the wine and help guide the cup.
If you prefer intinction, after receiving the bread, let it remain in your hands as you move to receive the wine. The person distributing the wine will lightly dip it in the wine and place it
back in your hands.
Communion is valid in all of the above cases. Please continue to wear your masks before and after consuming Communion, and before you return to your seat.
If you would like a gluten free wafer let the priest know either before the service or when you come up to receive. As always, without receiving the bread or wine, you may come up, cross your arms over your chest and receive a blessing.
Yours in Christ,
Priest Doyle

Remembrance of Jim (James) Spangler
|
|
|
Charlie Buff and Ron Keith planted an Oregon Green Pine in the garden near Stevenson Hall.
They were contacted by John Potter, a friend of Jim Spangler who recently died
at 94 years old.

Jim Porter Ron Keith & Charlie Buff
|
|
Jim's connection to St Patrick's was through the Alcoholic Anonymous meetings he attended for over ten years at our church.
John asked if he and his wife, Barbara could plant a tree in his memory at the church.
In the central garden now sits a new little pine tree in memory of Jim
Spangler. For many years Jim participated in weekly AA meetings that
were held here and helped many people who struggle with addiction. In
his final days, at 94 years old, when the subject came up, he
mentioned a fondness for the Church and garden and liked the idea of a
Christmas-like tree.
When my wife, Anne, and I asked Jim's wife, Barbara, if we could plant
something in Jim's memory, she suggested we contact St. Patrick's
Church. A big Thank You to Ronald Keith and Charlie (Buff) for making
this possible. Through the kindness of this Church, wishes come true.
With love and gratitude,
John and Anne Potter

Our Blessing Bag Ministry Continues!
|
|
|
Our Blessing Bag ministry continues! Blessing Bags will be delivered to the Redwood Gospel Mission in downtown Santa Rosa after the second Sunday of each month. The next due date is March 13. The staff at RGM will distribute them to the many people who need them.
Rich and I recently delivered some bags from the generous people of St. Patrick’s. The warm messages of encouragement are just as important as the meal in the bag.
When you make up the quart-sized bags include: a pop-top of pasta with some kind of meat sauce, a package of crackers with either peanut butter or cheese, a box of juice, a granola-type bar and a napkin with a sturdy plastic fork. The easiest bags to fill are made by Glad, called Flex and Seal. It’s nice to include a note of encouragement from St. Patrick’s Church, something like” Best wishes for a brighter tomorrow.”
Please call me if you have any questions. You can reach me at (408)981-2024.
Feel free to drop the bags off at our house and if we’re not home just leave them on our porch at 8399 Oakmont Dr. Alternatively, you can leave them in the Narthex in the designated white box when you come to church on Sunday.

Greetings St Patrick's and Friends!
I am back in the office with my amazing new assistant! Her name is Aunika Rose and she's expensive, naps & drinks on the job, types zero words per minute, and won't answer the phones.
But I love her anyway!!
It's a joy bringing Aunika to the office, thank you all for your love and support!
With Love & Blessings,
Bobbiejo M.

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
