Report Cards go out April 1.

We have set aside Wednesday, April 20 for parent teacher conferences/teacher workday. If you would like a parent teacher conference that day, please contact your teacher. Wednesday, April 20 will be a regular day for preschool. There are no parent teacher conferences for preschool. If you need childcare that day for your K & up child, please contact us by April 5 so we can line up staff to run Kids Club all day from 9 AM until 3 PM. STEAM and all other regular extracurricular activities will be offered on Wednesday afternoon April 20 at their normal time.

For those parents wanting to see how far their child has progressed this year, we are offering end of the year testing through National Testing Center.

• This test is optional but encouraged.
•The $50 testing fee is due by April 1 to Kelly Gish. •Please do NOT send your $50 to Mrs. Virginia.
•Details and the order form are  below.
•End of year testing date will be May 13 for grades 2 and up.
•K and 1st test should be administered at home.
•This test is not a national standardized test and does not meet the state requirement for testing. It is far superior to the CAT (California Achievement Test) as it is far more insightful and informative.

Homeschool Unlimited students grades K and up are required to EITHER…

• take a national standardized test like the California Achievement Test (here is a link and your child can take it at home on line) https://www.academicexcellence.com/complete-online-california-achievement-test-not-timed/

OR

â€˘ have a letter of advancement written by someone with a master’s degree or PhD after the evaluation of each student. Ali Stocking will be evaluating each Homeschool Unlimited student who is selecting this option. Ali will conference with your child’s teacher and email parents the letter of advancement.

The only students exempt from this state law requiring testing or a letter of advancement are those who are registered under the religious exemption. If you are not registered under the religious exemption, your child is required to either take a national standardized test like the CAT or have a letter of advancement.

Each letter of advancement will cost
$25 for the first sibling
$20 for the second
$15 for the third

… and should be sent via PayPal directly to Ali Stocking at Alissa.m.stocking@gmail.com by May 1. A screenshot of Ali’s PayPal is at the very end. Make sure you pay OUR Ali!  Please include your child’s name, grade and teacher on your PayPal payment so Ali can cross reference it with your child’s teacher. Ali will email the letter of advancement to you, your child’s teacher and Mrs. Virginia.

You need either the CAT or this letter of advancement for your child’s transcripts no matter if they are staying with us for next year or going to public or private school. I highly recommend doing both the letter of advancement and the National Testing Center option because of the information, quality of feedback and spectrum of results it provides but the choice is yours.

If your child’s teacher is not going to recommend that your child advance, he/she will let you know.

Spring Break April 11-15. No classes. If anyone needs childcare 9:00-3:00 (or earlier or later) let us know. If staff is available, we will provide child are that week at regular kids club rates.

Curriculum Coordinator, Kelly Gish will be offering a “Make your student’s records / portfolio” class. The class will be videoed and posted to Facebook so everyone will have the opportunity to watch it and learn at their convenience and leisure.

Don’t forget the date to register as Homeschoolers for the State of Virginia is August 1.

Last day of School is Friday, May 27.

We are still looking for a facility to have our end of year program.

We need 2 more students for the Home Ec Class on Thursdays for grades 2 & up. Contact us ASAP!

So, let us know which testing/letter option you prefer, send in the appropriate payments to Kelly and or Ali, write all of these important dates on your calendar, and schedule your child’s parent teacher conference if you need one!

Beginner test:
test to be completed with parent at home and returned to Kelly Gish within a week

-This simple 13-page test is for children who are just beginning to read and write (about ages 4 – 6). It’s fun and easy for the children to do and they will not feel intimidated by the creativity they can express on the test itself. Parents can read and/or write for students who are not yet proficient. Subjects covered are writing, reading comprehension, history, science, math and language arts.

Intermediate Test

-This 16-page test is for children who have learned to read and write, about ages 6 – 8. Students write and draw on the test and use their creativity to answer the questions according to their level of learning. Subjects covered are reading and writing, history, science, math and language arts.

Junior Elementary

-This 28-page test is for children ages about 8 – 10. Students write and draw on this test and test questions are geared to this age level. Subjects covered are reading comprehension, language arts, math, science and history.

Advanced Elementary Test

-This 35-page test is for older elementary age students — about ages 10 – 12. It is formatted similar to a GED test, where students fill in a bubble sheet to mark their answers. All five core subjects are on the test. Students who take this test are also challenged to fill out a map of the United States and write on a separate section the states and their capitals.

Senior Test

-This exam is similar to a GED level exam, and is intended for students 12 and older. Students fill in a bubble sheet to record their answers. This exam tests students in 22 different areas in the five core subjects…math, science, interpreting literature and the arts, writing skills, and social studies. Students are also required to complete an essay, which is analyzed and corrected by the National Testing Center.
