Congratulations to our 2022 elected House Leaders! These leaders were voted in by their Houses after delivering some great speeches.
We now look forward to seeing how they grow in their leadership across the year.
Nominations for this week's Myross Bush School Values Awards are:

Emily Sewpersad for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.” Emily you are always trying really hard in your workshops! We are proud of you.

Aleigha MacKay for Kotahitanga “Getting along together.” Aleigha you are a great friend and always caring for others in our class.

Harrison Cook for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.” Harrison has been trying hard in all areas and he has worked hard to be in the right place at the right time, ready to learn.

Freya Kingsford-Smith for Ngakau Tapatahi “Doing the right thing even when no one else is looking.” Freya is always on task, helps others and does her best in workshops and in independent work. She is a great listener and a good role model for others.

Mitch Hamilton for showing Whakapai Ake "Being the best you can be." Mitch consistently applies himself both during workshops and independent work. He always has a smile on his face, even when it's tricky. Ka pai, Mitch!

Chloe McArthur for always showing Whakapai Ake "Being the best you can be." Chloe is an excellent independent worker. She tries her best and works hard to complete all tasks. We appreciate the effort she puts into all her work.

Charlotte Hawkes for Kotahitanga “Getting along together.” Charlotte, it has been awesome to see you mixing with everyone in the class. You are a great friend in Akotoa and never fail to put a smile on someone's face! Keep it up Charlotte.

This week the Values trophy is awarded to:
Genevieve Skeggs for Whakapai Ake “Be the best you can be.” Genevieve is an outstanding member of Akotoa, always completing work of a very high standard, stepping up to new learning challenges and actively seeking opportunities to strengthen her skills as a learner. Ka pai Genevieve!

Welcome to River and Chase who have started in Matai.
Our School House Athletics Day was successfully held on Friday last week. Thanks to some clever work from Mel Lemin (our Sports Connector), we carefully navigated the Red level restrictions and were able to see all our tamariki participate and "aim high" in each of the events.
We wish to say thanks to the parents who helped us on the day - we couldn't have done it without you!

The House points have been totalled for the day and here are the results:
Ross - 1080
Kerr - 1040
Myers - 740
Johnston - 370

Due to the growing Covid cases in the wider community, restrictions placed on us at the Red level and lack of available swimming instructors, we have made the difficult decision to postpone school swimming this term

We are keen to arrange an alternative for Term 4 and will be in touch with more information closer to the time.
On Monday this week, John Parsons met online with Kawaka and Akotoa to support the important messages relating to Cyber Safety. He focused on "keeping our brains safe" and talked about:
1) Ensuring we get good sleep and the importance of being off a device 1-1.5hrs before going to bed. John says "Sleep is our superpower."
2) On Saturday and Sunday, have no more than 1.5hrs of device time (this does not include TV time) so that we are engaging with our families, sport, etc.
3) Avoiding material that makes us feel uncomfortable by paying attention to the ratings on games/videos (see image attached).
4) That we MUST speak with someone we trust if we come across images online that make us feel uncomfortable.
5) If someone says unkind things to us online, do NOT reply, but speak to someone we trust. A good saying here is "Don't go to bed with a worry in your head."

Parents, I encourage you to consider and follow these points up with your children. It is a great opportunity to set some family expectations if these have not already been done.

For more information see https://www.citizen21.co.nz/

A reminder that heatups must be labelled with the child's name and classroom. Please do NOT use a whiteboard pen or similar as they rub off. Try taping a sticky on the tinfoil and then writing on this. Thanks.

To support you with setting Hero up effectively, we have created the following short videos:
Video 1: App Notifications Preferences
Video 2: How to ensure you don’t miss any Hero Notifications through the app
Is your child is struggling with getting to sleep at night? The following video could help.

It has been produced by the Learning Differences Aotearoa Trust and is an excellent guide to using a progressive muscle technique. Simple but helpful.
