Statement from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health

With continued improvement in trends, Ontario will remove the mandatory masking requirement for most settings on March 21, with the exception of select settings such as public transit, health care settings, long-term care homes and congregate care settings.

As a society, we must remain kind, considerate and respectful toward those who continue wearing a mask.

While this does not signal that COVID-19 has disappeared or that the pandemic is over, it does mean that we have come to a place where we know what we need to do to manage this virus and to keep each other safe.

We need to remain vigilant. We need to stay home when sick. And, most importantly, we need to get vaccinated and boosted.

Small Business Supports

The City of Toronto and its partners offer many supports to help small business owners and operators mitigate and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. These include grants, incentives, online training, advisory services and a new small business property tax sub-class. Small businesses, including restaurants, are encouraged to take advantage of these resources. Find a full slate of resources at toronto.ca/BusinessSupport.

Wellington Project  - Get on the list for updates/meetings

Email Communications / Meetings: If you are a business owner/manager or property owner within the construction zone or are impacted by the Wellington Project and wish to receive updates or invites to city led meetings for businesses, and are not already receiving emails from the city, please email paul.martin@toronto.ca to be added to the list and let them know which business or property you represent.

LAST CALL: CafeTO Site Plan Assistance

If you are applying for a CafeTO permit and need assistance with technical site plans, please note that the BIA, as a one time only sponsored service, is able to help via our intern. Please email stephenm@stlawrencemarketbia.ca for an introduction to our intern. Deadline to request assistance and provide preliminary details is March 18th, 2022 if you are applying for curb lane. This deadline is extended for those applying for curb side / sidewalk until approx. May 1st.

REMINDER TO APPLY: Restaurant operators can now apply for sidewalk café permits or register for curb lane cafés. The deadline to register for curb lane cafés is April 2.

Every business and commercial property owner within the boundaries of The St. Lawrence Market Business Improvement Area (BIA), also known at Old Town Toronto, are automatically members of our not-for-profit organization.

What is a Business Improvement Area?
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is made up of commercial and industrial property owners and their non-residential tenants who join together under a volunteer Board of Management (BIA Board) to carry out improvements and promote economic development within their designated area.

There are currently 83 BIAs in the City of Toronto. They work in partnership with the City to enhance and promote business areas as safe, vibrant places to do business, unique destinations for tourists and focal points for neighbourhood activity...(click learn more to continue reading.)
