No Wrong Door for Support and Recovery Inc. provides Macon residents; inmates with an array of services 

A vision to help those at their lowest point has evolved over the last decade with the support of community leaders into what is known today as No Wrong Door for Support and Recovery Inc. 

No Wrong Door aims to support persons who are transitioning from detention or treatment facilities 

and will enlist the aid of peer support, pastoral ministries, municipal/community organizations and other agencies/providers who support and assist persons who suffer from substance use and/or mental health challenges. Providing community-based peer support and education, No Wrong Door provides support for individuals and family members who have been affected by a loved one’s struggles.

Smoky Mountian Sk8way & Fun Zone Host Adults Only Skate every Thursday Night 7 - 10 pm with DJ Ken Brandenburg Cost is $8 and Includes Skates 

Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Centers in Cullowhee and Franklin have an educational parenting program to earn “Points” to use to obtain free items for your family. The centers carry formula, diapers, wipes, baby items, and clothing up to size 6, as well as strollers, car seats, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc. Donations are always welcome. Smoky Mountain Farmers & Artisans Market- Farmer’s Market (with artisans) will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through October at 117 Island Street in Bryson City. Stop by the old barn by the river for local, homegrown produce, as well as baked goods, jellies and preserves, authentic crafts, and more. Food truck, picnic tables, and a strolling musician




Food Pantries :

Franklin Covenant Church- Host a Free Lunch And Pantry Once a Month on the fourth Saturday of the month. It runs from 11:00 am until we either run out or there are no more people coming. It is a drive-through and to-go service. In addition to a free hot lunch, we give out dry goods and pantry supplies, like cleaning supplies, etc. We are NOT doing the pantry this month (January 29) due to the high possibility of inclement weather. We don't like to cancel, but it's difficult for us to just reschedule for another Saturday due to the amount of coordination and other commitments our volunteers have. 

Prentiss Church Food Pantry will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2 to 5:30 p.m. The church is located at 59 Church Hill Lane. For more information, call (828)369-3885.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes, and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Friday for drive-up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Hiking:

Nantahala Hiking Club General Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 10, at 6 p.m. at the Macon County Public Library. You do not need to be a member to attend these meetings. Presenter Jonathan Byrd will discuss enjoying cold weather outdoor activities safely.

Nantahala Hiking Club on Saturday, March 12,  will hike to Brasstown Falls which has a newly constructed bridge and stairs to an observation deck to view the sluice and a group of five waterfalls. Then take a side trail to the base of Little Brasstown Falls, drive to Woodall Shoals along the Chattooga River. Meet at the Smoky Mountain Visitor Center at 10 a.m.  For more information and reservations, call  (828)524-5298.

 

Nantahala Hiking Club on Sunday, March 13, will  hike to Brown Branch in the Watauga Valley on a Forest Service Rd. with a steady climb. Pass a lovely cascade along the way. Views north to Gold City. Historic T M Rickman Store is open Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at   259 Cowee Creek Rd. Dulcimer music in the morning and music jams begin at noon.

Volunteer drivers are needed at Macon County Senior Services. Mileage will be reimbursed. For more information, call (828) 349-0211.

Macon County CareNet is in need of volunteers. Positions open are in the food pantry, soup kitchen, and file room. If interested stop by for an application at 130 Bidwell St., or call (828)369-2642.

Appalachian Animal Rescue Center is looking for volunteers to help at the thrift store. Call for information about the store (828)369-3046 or the shelter (828)524-4588 if you are interested in volunteering.

CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street's new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Spiritual Light Center on Sunday,   March 13, 11 a.m., Nancy Gnecci will share on “Cutting the Ties that Bind – Healing Karmic Connections”. On Tuesday a movie is shown at 3 p.m. and out to eat afterward.
