Support the St. Pat's To-Go Meal Fundraiser
Share the St. Patrick's fundraiser flyer with your friends, family and co-workers. If everyone sells 10 tickets, we'll reach our goal. Order in advance and then pick up on March 17 at the Blue Goose between 4-7 PM. Sign up to help prep, cook and package meals. Thank you Becky for arranging the donation of the corned beef from Country Natural Beef. Cyndie is leading the committee; we are counting on everyone helping anyway that they can.
Club Invests in Dreams
On February 23, our club distributed over $9,000 in grants and scholarships to encourage women to continue their education, support teachers and recognize women making a difference.
  • 3 Live Your Dream Scholarships to Single Mothers continuing their education in business and healthcare
  • Investing in Dreams Scholarship to Del Oro Student
  • Ruby Award to Julie's Purse Project
  • 12 Teacher Grants
  • Grant to Fund Senior L.I.F.E. Center Teachers
Thank you to the Eileen and Randy Elder for making it possible to hold the event at the Blue Goose. Thanks to Karin who led the Awards Committee with Alaire, Ardella, Julie B., Karen and Ralene.

Club Holds "Dream It, Be It" Vision Board Session
Led by Mechelle, the club hosted a special vision board session for 11 girls at Image Pathways in Newcastle, using a grant the club received from the Soroptimist Sierra Nevada Region. Participants were residents of Koinonia Group Homes and students from Del Oro and Granite Bay High Schools.

The purpose was to help girls feel empowered to discover their own interests that might lead them toward satisfying careers. As part of the session, girls learned how to use meditation to center themselves, discussed limitations that we have to overcome to pursue our dreams and discovered their own superpowers. The girls cut out magazine photos and made their own vision boards to inspire them.

Thank you to Karen, Rae and Shari Lynn as well as two guests, Dawn and Monica, who helped Mechelle with the program.

The club recently received a grant from Soroptimist International Roseville to support the Dream It Be It program with Koinonia. Each year, Mechelle facilitates her Achieve It  "Take a Selfie" course and club members conduct the multi-session career exploration program.
Welcome Jen!
Sharla introduced Jen Rousseau to the club and Jackie inducted her as a new member on March 2.
President Rae's Message
It is time to select a new board for our Soroptimist club. Please consider a position on the board.  You will be engaging in many fun activities as well as educating yourself regarding our mission and Soroptimist.  I have served in various positions on the board for the past four years and I have learned so much about Soroptimist as well as myself.  We have so many talented women and there is always someone to help guide you along the way.

A committee will be reaching out to you this month to see if you may be interested in guiding us this coming year. Positions available are:  President, President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Two Year Delegate.  Please reach out to any of the current members in these positions, if you have any questions.

We Rise by Lifting Others,
Rae DeGabriele

Spend Time with the Acres of Hope Families
The club will be visiting Acres of Hope on Saturday, March 26 from 10:30 AM to 3 PM. We'll be sprucing up the patio gathering area with new coordinated cushions, playing Bingo, offering facial demonstrations, doing yoga, serving pizza and giving out gift bags of personal care items to the mothers and toys to the children.

The greatest gift we can give is extending our friendship and getting to know these brave women who are overcoming challenges, raising their children and participating in the two-year Acres of Hope program to change their lives around. We hope to see one of our Live Your Dream recipients, too, so we can continue to encourage her.

Everyone in the club is invited; please RSVP to Rae by March 23.
Member Profile: Meet Sheila
Sheila Lee says that what she most enjoys about Soroptimist is the sisterhood. "When you join Soroptimist, you are never alone," said Sheila. "In good times and bad, we stick together."

Her family not only supports her involvement in the club but joined her. "At one time, my family had three generations in the same club," said Sheila. "My favorite club project was making the reusable sanitary pads for girls in other countries. The girls who received our pads were able to stay in school all month."

She has retired from many professions. "I did home nursing, mostly with patients who were terminal, taught special education adults and co-owned a costume shop with my daughter," said Sheila. "Now, I volunteer at the senior L.I.F.E. center and teach craft classes."

Sheila enjoys travel, especially to the ocean. "I love the continuity of the waves, the sound of the gulls and eating fresh seafood," said Sheila.
Yes, You Can Serve on the Board
The nominating committee will be contacting members for input and to explain how we can get more involved in the club. Consider joining the board -- it is a one year commitment, you get to know members and you can share your skills with the club.
