Message from the Captain:

Dear Member,

Hope you are keeping well. I would like to inform our members of an opportunity that has become available. We are currently seeking support to fill our Handicap Convenor space which has opened up. The current Handicap Convenor will be stepping down from this role in the coming weeks. In preparation for this we invite individuals who would be interested in supporting this opening to contact the Captain, Mr. Brian Marshall via email to discuss further - brianvm@outlook.com. Training and support will be provided by the existing Convenor and Handicap Committee. Some of the responsibilities include:

Working with the members of the Handicap committee ensuring score cards are reviewed and processed on a weekly basis following competitions.
Configuring and monitoring the BRS Timesheet.
Ensure competitions are set up prior to competitions starting at weekends.
Support with communicating notices relating to any rule changes, either official or local, competition fixtures, competition results, handicap changes etc.
Assist in the organising of prize giving for major events such as Captain's Day.
Work with team Captain’s on players handicaps for interclub events.
Winter League & Thursday Cup competitions
Ongoing review of handicaps and issue of new handicaps.
End of season annual handicap review.

We say goodbye to a long serving member of staff at Scrabo Golf Club. After 38 years of serving our beverages from the bar Mrs Marie McConnell is retiring. Marie has provided a tremendous amount of service during her time with us and has looked after all our members and guests exceptionally well over the years. Marie will be sorely missed.

Farewell Marie and good luck in the next chapter.

New Appointments at Scrabo Golf Club

Scrabo Golf Club would like to welcome two new additions to the team.

Mr. Jim Cullen joins us as the new General Manager of Scrabo Golf Club. Jim has over 15 years experience within the Golf and Hospitality business working within both private and proprietary clubs dealing with all aspects of day to day operations. Jim is both delighted and excited to join Scrabo Golf Club as General Manager and is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Mr. Michael Rollo joins us as Front of House Manager. Michael brings a wealth of experience as Bar and Front of House Manager. Michael has previously worked in establishments including The Parlour Bar, Romas and Belfast Boat Club.

Please join us in welcoming Jim and Michael onboard.

Notice is hereby given that the 114th Annual General Meeting of the Club will be held at the Club on Wednesday 30th March 2022 at 7.30pm sharp.

Only 'Full members' who have fully paid are entitled to attend.

Course Update

14/03/2022 - Greens will be injected with compressed air. Specialised equipment will drive a spike down 20” into the compacted soil and compressed air is released. This will help with deep down aeration and drainage.

29/03/2022 - Greens will be graded. This specialised machine cuts vertically down into the greens to a depth of 25mm to rip out thatch. Thatch is a layer of organic matter that accumulates at the base of the grass plant. This keeps the surface wet and makes spongy greens. The greens will then be cleaned, overseeded and top-dressed with sand and matted in. This work is carried out to assist in producing firmer and drier greens.

Temporary greens will be in operation while this important work is carried out.

Rules of Golf Evening

Scrabo members have been invited to attend a Golf Ireland Rules Night at Shandon Park on Wednesday 23rd March at 7.30pm.

An alternative date and venue is also available. Scrabo members may also attend Ormeau Golf Club on Monday 28th March at 7.30pm.

Thanks to everyone who managed to complete the Golf Ireland One Club model survey. The survey is now closed and a report will be put together containing the results and it will be shared with the members in due course.
