Pope Francis and Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, are due to visit Juba, South Sudan in July, corresponding with the country's 11th year of independence. Both the Pope and Archbishop Justin have visited a number of African countries but this visit to South Sudan has been postponed several times due to ongoing insecurity.

Top marks for the TEU team

The Episcopal Churches of South Sudan (ECSS) recently undertook an internal financial audit and the TEU team was congratulated for its exemplary and robust financial systems, demonstrating excellent accountability. A big thank you to Joseph, Vicky and the whole TEU team for their diligence and determination in pursuing the highest standards across the university.

What's coming up for TEU?

TEU has developed a partnership with Engineering Ministries International (EMI), a non-profit engineering consultancy whose mission is "to develop people, design structures, and construct facilities which serve communities and the Church."
A team of EMI engineers, alongside local engineers, will join the TEU team in mid-March to design the architecture of the Rokon campus. This follows earlier work done to conduct various surveys of the land. The EMI team will also support capacity building within the team, particularly in terms of fundraising to support future building work.
The vision for Rokon is for it to serve as the administrative centre for TEU, as well as a campus, a hub for the local community, and a home for income generation projects (e.g. agriculture) to financially support the university.
Thanks to support from AFRECS, a solar-powered water system is being built on the Rokon campus - a crucial first step in its construction.

The people in South Sudan speak over 60 indigenous languages. Some of these are spoken by only a handful people but Dinka, Nuer, Bari, and Zande are some of the indigenous languages with the most speakers.
|
|
|
We are very blessed to have a small group of dedicated trustees, volunteers and advisors. But once again, partly due to some trustees having served their full term in the near future, we're on the look out for people who would either be interested in joining us as a trustee or as a volunteer - especially if you have fundraising experience.
