Spring into reading! Learn about new additions to our services and collections. Collections and Services, Spring 2022
March has arrived! The snow is finally gone. The sun is shining consistently and early signs of spring promise warm sunny days ahead, and long, lingering evenings yet to come.
With the warmer temperatures, don’t you just want to spend more and more time outside, listening to music, playing corn hole, grilling dinner or simply soaking up some sun while you hang out with friends and family? So, why not spend some of that sun-soaking time reading? Or download an audiobook to listen to as you clean out your garden beds. ;-)
With all the national reading events in March to kick off the reading-in-the-sunshine season you can’t go wrong! There’s Dr. Seuss’s birthday, National Reading Month, Women’s History Month, as well as the final month of the Winter Reading Challenge to inspire all of us to read.
Check out the content below to help you on your reading journey!

Suggest a Title & ILL Services Are Back!

Talk about amazing reading opportunities! The YVL Suggest a Title service together with the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service – now fully back in action – truly have the potential to provide a nearly limitless array of titles to our library users. We do our level best every day to find the titles you ask for. Whether we purchase them to add to our collection or seek them out from other libraries across the country, we’ll do what we can to get that material in your hand. Our ILL Department is now staffed and trained and ready for more requests to flood in! Each card holder can have up to 5 requests at one time. Look for the icon below in the quick links box on the YVL homepage and request your title today!

Comics & Graphic Novels on Overdrive

Are you looking for more comics and manga? We have just the thing for you! We recently added the All Access Comics package to our OverDrive website. This package provides more than 3,700 comic and graphic novel titles from publishers such as Disney, Marvel, IDW, Image and DarkHorse. The newly added content substantially increased our OverDrive collection for this special format so we created a Comics Reading Room to showcase this fantastic material.
We will continue to add new titles so keep checking back for more!

People reading books
Book Club Sets - Are you trying to start a book group and don’t know how to get all the books you need? Or do you already have a book group but need help getting the books you want to read? Are you looking for ideas of what books your group might read? We’ve got you covered! Yakima Valley Libraries provides ready-made Book Club Sets that include eight copies of the book in a zippered navy tote, all ready to bring to your next meeting. While you can search for the book club sets in the catalog, each title will have a link to take you to KitKeeper to reserve that set. (Our online catalog is wonderful for many things. Making sure you get a title on a particular date three months from now is not one of them.)  You can also browse our roughly 200 sets in KitKeeper by title or date availability. Recently added titles include "Such a Fun Age" by Kiley Reid, "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer, "The Overstory" by Richard Powers, and "Daisy Jones & the Six" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Happy reading and discussing!

And about that Winter Reading Challenge...

Just a quick reminder that all entries from our annual adult Book Bingo program need to be turned in by Thursday, March 31 to go into the prize drawings!
