March Event, Girls Achieving Leadership in Aviation
The inaugural GALA took place on March 19, 2022 at Sheltair Peter O'Knight Field. It was a night to celebrate the accomplishments of women in aviation, past, present, and future.
Lisa Holland, President, Sheltair addressed the gathering expressing gratitude in the support of her philanthropical mission to support women in all aspects of aviation. The evening was a scholarship fundraiser for the first annual Betty Skelton Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be awarded through Women in Aviation Tampa Bay Chapter to help women/girls in the Tampa Bay community to pursue their aviation goals.
We are grateful to everyone who helped make the scholarship possible.
Details about how to apply are forthcoming.

Chapter Business
New! With the payment of both International dues and Chapter dues we have name tags for each paid member. Please email us a copy of your WAI membership card with your current expiration date and your badge will be available at the next event you attend. To update dues please go to wai.org for International and waitb.org to pay chapter dues. Please send a copy of your WAI membership card to waitampabay@gmail.com.

The benefits of paying dues for both memberships include access to scholarship and networking opportunities both internationally and locally. Our Tampa Bay Chapter will have events which are sponsored by a local aviation related business which may have limited seating and will be available to members whose dues are current, i.e. our May event, Top Gun Maverick, hosted by Tampa Bay Aviation.
GIAD Planning Committee help needed
Our annual Girls in Aviation Day event is fast approaching and there is a lot of work and planning that goes into making this day our biggest day of the year. We could use your help on a GIAD planning committee.

Mariah Blackmon is our GIAD Committee Project Manager and did the bulk of the work last year. In order to share the load, we need additional members to support her during the planning of the event. Here is some of what it takes to organize the event:
Community outreach and securing sponsors, bring in aircraft, organizing where aircraft/vendors will be located on the ramp and in the hangar, sponsor 501c3 forms and fund collection, organizing volunteers, managing emails and social media, coordinating thank you swag and swag in general, coordination with the WAI GIAD committee, coordinating ZOOM meetings for the organizational process. This is not an all inclusive list.

If you can help, please do. Contact Mariah at waitampabay@gmail.com to join the committee.
Thank you.
News you can use
