 In Focus!         March 2022

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello CCoH!

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and healthy.  Can you believe – spring is right around the corner? – which means the photographic opportunities are endless.  Bugs, flowers, weather, butterflies, spring growth…..yes!

I wanted to - up front - thank all those who helped test and execute our first in person/hybrid test of the General Meeting.  I think we’ve paved the way to accommodate many.  Thank you for your patience and support. Many thanks also to JD – our program director – for coordinating a great presentation by Bonnie and Chris who showed us outstanding images and dialogue that will help us all as photographers.  Also – thank you to Jim T, who has assumed the reins as our new webmaster. Please – take the time to review the webpage.  I think you will find it is worth seeing!

It goes without saying that we have a crazy but very dedicated team working behind the scenes to provide you great events.  Accordingly, we are looking for someone to assist with coordinating our field trips.  You can find some of the general duties of Field Trip Coordinator on our webpage.  If you need more information – please contact me directly.

Looking ahead to March – Our Before and After event (March 22), 2nd Tuesday critique (March 8) and our Gimme your best shot for March – Golden Hour!  Who doesn’t like photographing a great sunset or sunrise!!

I also wanted to let everyone know that – the club has a Facebook page.  It is closed and only for club members.  I would love to see club members post images – not for criticism (unless requested) but just to show some of the stuff you’re working on.  I got it – Facebook is not for everyone – but for others, it is a great way to illustrate your images without worrying about toxic feedback.  I encourage you to join the group and post.

Finally – back to our passion.  Spring is coming.  The sunsets and sunrises are just as photogenic (especially with good clouds), the bugs and birds will start emerging.  Please – get outside….look at those nature vignettes that most pass people by.  Develop that photographic difference between ‘looking’ and ‘seeing’.   So…go shoot!!

IT'S TIME FOR FIELD TRIPS!

It’s spring.  You know what that means?  FIELD TRIPS!  We need club members to plan field trips now that we are experiencing warmer temps and the beauty of nature.  The field trip suggestion sheet is on the website www.cameraclubofhendersonville.com/field-trip-suggestion-form.pdf.  Please submit to Lois Van Reese, Club Secretary at ccoh.clubsecretary@gmail.com.  If the suggested date has no conflicts with other club events, the organizer will be notified and notices will be sent out to club members.  Let’s get out and shoot!

We are also seeking a Field Trip Coordinator:  This position coordinates field trips with the Club calendar. The coordinator is not the host of the field trip; rather the club member who submits the proposal.  The proposal process and the field trip suggestion forms are out on the website.  Please consider being the go-to person for this.  Since Covid has forced the club to hold meetings virtually, field trips are one of the only ways to gather in small, safe groups to share our love of photography.

For a complete job description, please contact Lois Van Reese.
FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Financials:  Expenses for month of January: $308.96 (which covers the budgeted name tag expenses for new members.  New members then pay back this fee with new member initiation fees of $15 for the tag); Deposits from Dues Renewals, $600; Available Cash Reserves $2213.71.
  • We have a new Web Master, Jim Troeger, for the CCoH web page.  Take a look at some of the changes being implemented for a clean, easy way to access materials.  It’s still a work in progress, but Jim is doing an amazing job!  Thanks for filling this role, Jim.
  • Tuesday Critiques:  A reminder to all club members that our Critique sessions are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 1:00 pm, via Zoom. You should be receiving updates from Ward Seguin on changes to the structure.  Join us to have your photos critiqued.
  • If you are not receiving notices from our Club President, please let me know so we can check the email address we have on file.  Also, if you’ve moved recently, it’s time to update your records.  Send me a note.
