Give to Impact Middle East
in His Great Mercy

I met Erina*, a 43-year-old woman, at her shoe store. Together, we pray and study God’s word on the phone and at her store. Erina’s husband is a very ruthless and stubborn man. He is captive to many wicked and corrupt things, including beating her regularly.

Erina recently shared with me her deepest wound. She said, “I will withstand all insults and abuses for the sake of my children. But I have been very troubled and even in agony for more than two years. I could not share with you before because I was very ashamed. My husband watches pornography on the internet every night. I am very depressed and frustrated to the extent that sometimes I feel like I want to explode like a volcano. I have spoken with him many times and told him that what he is doing is unhealthy and not pleasing to God. Every time I mention this issue, he shouts at me, and sometimes he beats me. When my children ask me about my bruises, I say: ‘I fell down while I was cleaning the house.’”

Erina told me her suffering had multiplied in the last three weeks because he had begun to force her to watch these movies with him. He beat her harshly if she refused to do so.

When Erina finished sharing, she was sobbing. She wanted me to pray about this matter. I told her, “It is not a matter of one-time prayer. We need to fast and pray. You pray in your home every night for a week, and I will do the same.” I instructed her to use the Psalms for her Bible reading. And when she encountered her husband’s demands, I told her to pray according to Romans 13: 11-14: “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Erina called me at the end of the week and with great joy shared about the changes in her husband. He had stopped asking her to join him watching pornography. Then he quit watching it himself. Next, he removed the password from his cell phone. (Before he hid his phone and kept it locked so no one would see what was on it.)

Erina and I thanked God for His great mercy. I am seeking an opportunity for her husband to meet my husband. I trust the Lord to open the door for my husband to share with him the Good News.
