David Nguyen's "Ballyhoo"
Saturday, March 5th from 6:00PM - 9:00PM
This will be a free art exhibit! featuring 30+ pieces of artwork from David Nguyen that were made in the past few covid years. Here is statement from David about his art:

"At times I run experiments where If I put this pen, brush, pencil, pastel, or stylus on this usually white stationary, what will be the outcome? I enjoy having my time with them, art pieces done, finite in its medium, and maybe give it to another form, continuing its life, where I was once more limited. Presented [here] are a few pastel, oil, photographed, then digitally painted on pieces, some of my favorites. Other one of a kind art projects I also do are by the process of ebru, a Turkish methodology where one adds teaspoons of seaweed to a tub of water, thickening the water, and dropping paint onto the surface, only to wipe it away with your medium of choice, the paint having imprinted onto the surface of the medium. I have also added on top of some of these pieces, not always, but by painting on them with acrylics.
"I studied at Kendall College of Art and Design in 2018 for a semester before my mental health challenges came to face forcing me to drop out of my courses, I still consider myself self-taught. I make my art out of Grand Rapids, MI, so far, I have had pieces showing at “The Haunt” art venue, and the “2021 National Veterans Creative Art Festival” in Battle Creek, MI, taking first place for two separate submissions in two separate mediums. There is not a theme to them necessarily, other than time, some adventure and what can come of it. So, enjoy with me at my Ballyhoo, the fruits of my labor for the past few years. Thank you."

Looking Back at Our Free Show Fridays Events
We'd Like to thank the Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities and the City of Grand Rapids Neighborhood Match Fund who sponsored and supported these events! Since September, we’ve had various types of musicians perform ranging from singer songwriters, electronic, hip hop, spiritual, hardcore, experimental & punk. There was a wide age range of performers from various backgrounds.
The fund granted us $4,000 which allowed us to guarantee pay to the performers with $3,000 and use $1,000 for operating costs such as rent, utility bills and printing. With 171 volunteer hours and 351 attendees to the Free Show Fridays Event we'd love to thank all of you who came out or helped the DAAC out in any way, your support means a lot and we couldn't do this without you.

Here are the flyers and a photograph taken from each show:
Bathroom Fundraiser
You may have noticed but the DAAC bathrooms have been out of order since November! Due to oversight by contractors during renovations, we've discovered out our plumbing lines to for the DAAC do not connect to the city sewer. Gaia House Café has been graciously allowing us to use their facilities during events and rentals.
The projected cost for a solution that would tie the DAAC lines into the rest of the building is over $10,000. The DAAC is trying to fundraise to help offset the costs of the building owners. The solution will hopefully be completed by end of spring.

Any support is greatly appreciated, below are a few direct ways you can help out. Or, come out to one of the upcoming events to show your support for the DAAC!
