Elk River Slough Paddle

On Sunday, Feb. 13, a great turnout of paddlers arrived at the parking area at the end of Hilfiker Lane in Eureka. With colorful boats unloaded contrasting to the gray morning, everyone got ready for Explore North Coast's Elk River Slough paddle. The fog created a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere as the group launched on the water, cheerfully chatted, and paddled up the slough during the high tide. Sounds of the surf could be heard at a distance past the sand spit. Several paddlers spotted a red-tailed hawk perched nearby and a deer grazing in the shrubs. What a fantastic way to spend the morning!
