In this month’s newsletter: creating space, font snobbery, pie, and some of my favorite things.
Creating Space
I had an entirely different email drafted to send this morning about starting my blog seventeen years ago on March 25, 2005. But my yoga class this morning changed all that. At the beginning of class Sarah always asks us to set our intention for the class, and today since it was the first day of Spring, perhaps for the season.
The intention I created for myself was creating space. Space for beauty, messes, others, their opinions, growth, creativity, and the occasional fuck up.
I guess I could still wedge my blog into this intention since I created that space to share with others.
I've had so many ideas taking root in my head these past few weeks but am keenly aware of how much stuff I need to clear away to create space for these ideas to come to light. I have the physical space in my home studio, but am having trouble focusing with all the clutter, even though some of it is not in plain sight.
So, today I will...
plant some jasmine along a garden wall and imagining myself soaking in all that sweetness when they bloom in a few weeks.
sweep up the floor in my husband's backyard studio to create space for a morning yoga and meditation practice away from the dirty dishes and other work.
I will make pasta sauce and sort my spice drawer.
clear my desk to make one beautiful thing today.
There, I already feel much better.
My Favorite Things This Month
Y'all may have seen this poster on my studio wall, but truth be told... if someone handed me a complete set of Hobo in metal or wood type I would take it and run like I stole it. This podcast throwing shade on Comic Sans and other typefaces while attending a font party is dorky, but fun.
My current favorite pie cookbook. The Strawberry Pistachio Crumble Pie is amazing.
Somebody please make me one of these to carry all the pies. I'm serious.
