Level 2 Public Health and Social Measures – Community Sport Clarification
The following clarification has been provided by the Chief Health Officer in relation to community sport, community sporting events and the new Directions which came into effect on Thursday, 3 March.
“The Chief Health Officer has confirmed that regardless of the location that a community sport event is being held at – a dedicated purposely-built sports venue or a public venue such as Langley Park being used for a one-off community sport event – he considers it to still be deemed as community sport.”
A reminder that the definition of community sport is listed in Directions as:
Community sport means organised, community-based team or individual amateur sport played or participated in other than for valuable remuneration but does not include activities in the nature of an exercise class which requires payment or a ticket or other form of registration to participate.
This will enable outdoor community sporting events to proceed as community sport and therefore will not be subject to the 500 person capacity limit.
Indoor venues will still have capacity restrictions and spectators at indoor and outdoor events will be limited to parents/guardians.
