                             Next Big Meetup

 Monday 7th March 2022, 6.30 - 8pm

Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88078099523?pwd=dVNpZ3g3VGJyZndhelVuT2FCcjMxQT09

At the Big Meetup on 28th February, we discussed the importance of outreach.  We practised active listening and role-played door knocking. People valued the opportunity to experiment and the room was buzzing with enthusiasm.  More workshops are in the pipeline.  Contact TAAOutreachCommunityGroup@protonmail.com for more information and to get involved in outreach activities.

In the run up to the Mass Civil Resistance in London from April 9th, the hosting team will aim to hold weekly Big Meetups. We’ll be led by the Outreach and Actions Circles and may not know until the very last minute what the focus will be. Whatever the case, you won’t want to miss it!  See the piece in this newsletter from the actions team about what might be coming up.

Big Meetup dates for your diary in March.

All meetings will be 6.30 - 8pm

Remember these are your meetings and we welcome suggestions taahosting@protonmail.com

We’d also love to work towards a send off at the Glade on Tuesday 5th April and a family celebration after the London actions - watch this space …

                        NEWS

               Last week's actions.

 Plymouth

Totnes activists had a big presence in Plymouth on Saturday, joining rebels from around the South West bringing attention to Barclays' continuing investment in fossil fuels.
Coming at the same time as the war in Ukraine it highlighted even more the urgent need to divest.
Coffin carriers were present as well as Red Rebels and the action culminated in an occupation of Barclays Bank which saw activists being locked in and the names of murdered activists around the world being read out to members of the public as well as bank staff. No arrests were made and the occupation ended when the names had all been read out.
See photos.

Exeter

On Friday the Burning Ballroom action was taken to Devon County Council offices in Exeter during their review of pensions investments. The Totnes activists joined with other activists including the Samba Band to make clear that it is unacceptable that Devon CC continues to invest in fossil fuels.
Divest now was their message!
Keep an eye open for the upcoming video on the YouTube channel of the amazing Burning Ballroom which will get more outings in the coming weeks!

Upcoming actions & events

From the Actions team... Light your rebel fire!

After getting back on the streets with inspiring action in Exeter and Plymouth last week, we will have more opportunities in March.
Come to the Big Meetup on Monday 7th March to hear more about what's in store for Barclays in Exeter at the end of the month, and as many places as possible with the continuing Paint the Symbol action!
We will also be looking to London in April, and coming together again to make our presence felt.
And there are some knotty questions to untangle as we look at XR strategy and how it plays out in national campaigns and global issues.
Please join us  - we need you! We are all crew...and the more we are, the merrier the crew...

Totnes Outreach

The group is busy planning. Want to help ?  please contact us at TAAOutreachCommunityGroup@protonmail.com

Challenging Anthony Mangnall in 20 seconds

Please join SHCAN's WhatsApp group co-ordinating comments on Anthony Mangnall’s Facebook page. By calling out his flawed position in front of his supporters, we can embarrass him. Each action only takes 20 secs.

Just email YES to contact@sh-can.org with your mobile number. We’ll share suggested comments over WhatsApp. Someone posts it. Others like it.

If you avoid Facebook on ethical grounds, can we persuade you to re-think? It’s what the older people who vote for Mangnall use. It’s great emailing Mangnall direct, but no-one else sees your message. Comments on his Facebook posts are public and so have way more impact. The ends really justify the means here. Don’t leave Facebook to the malign manipulators and the easily fooled.

More info on www.sh-can.org. Please follow our Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/SouthHamsCAN.

Thank you :)

XR membership is huge and growing and it can be a bit daunting, so the Rebellion Academy is a series of short on-line tutorials covering everything from "The 10 Principles" to how to write press releases and loads more!
https://uk.rebellion.academy/ .
It's a good place to start, with some basic orientation, and it can help you decide what sort of rebel you are and what sort of role would suit you.

Thank you for taking action to fight climate and ecological breakdown - we are all crew and feedback is always welcome - hope to see you on the streets soon
