Dear <<First Name>>,

It is hard to believe that March is already here! It won't be long before the warm weather arrives. As we move forward to the bright days ahead I encourage you to bring a heart full of love and compassion for yourself and others.

May all that you do in this new month be productive and successful. Happy March, my friend.
We are continuing our Ministry Spotlight section where we highlight the key accomplishments my ministry, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Education, has achieved in the year 2021!
Building Student Housing

My ministry's highest priority is ensuring that people can access and be successful in their post-secondary training and education. These investments in post-secondary education and skill training will build a strong and resilient workforce that is ready for any challenge.

New Student Housing across B.C.

In September 2021, we announced the creation of 5,854 new student housing beds.

My ministry remains committed to helping students by removing barriers to education by building thousands of new student beds throughout B.C. Students need access to affordable on-campus housing so they can focus on their studies instead of their finances.

Jace Lamoureaxstudent, Selkirk College –

“Living in student housing, I’m only a short walk away from all of my classes and extracurriculars. It opens so many other opportunities as well, such as on-campus work, getting involved in the student community and being close to new friends. Living on campus makes the beginning of many students’ post-secondary journeys influential and unforgettable.”

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the week:
Families will save more on child care through Budget 2022

Before we formed the government, child care in B.C. had been underfunded and neglected for far too long. We’re making life better for families through Budget 2022 by continuing to invest in child care that will reduce costs for parents, improve access to child care and build the spaces families need.

With Budget 2022, more families will save as we move closer than ever to our planned $10/day child care. Through a new agreement with the federal government, families will see an average 50% reduction in costs for full-time care for children 5 and under by the end of the year. And families with children in preschool programs and before- and after-school care will see reduced fees to an average of $20 per day by September 2023.

There’s still more work to do, but we’re making progress towards our goals of delivering universal child care to B.C. families.

New life sciences investment helps build stronger B.C.

Life sciences is a powerful sector that touches every part of our lives – from health, food security, natural resources and more. As announced in Budget 2022 and aligned with the Stronger BC Economic Plan, we’re providing nearly $195 million in grant funding to Michaele Smith Health Research BC and Genome BC.

This funding will ensure British Columbians and people around the world will benefit from the life-changing work of B.C.’s world-renowned life sciences sector.

Record investments to create a clean economy for the future

The last two years have shown us that the place we call home is at risk like never before from the effects of climate change. That’s why we’re investing more than $1.2 billion in new funding for CleanBC through Budget 2022.

This investment will help accelerate actions to strengthen communities and expand opportunities for clean economic growth.
