Hello friends--
I have the German news channel Deutsche Welle on as I write to you. Maybe you are like me--shocked that Russia is once again invading Ukraine and wondering if there is something you can do to help the refugees. And there's another question in my mind: How are Joel and Irena and where are they?
Joel and Irena are my One Challenge coworkers based in Kyiv. Irena is Ukrainian, and her extended family lives in Kyiv and the surrounding area. The latest update from them is that they are staying at a house outside of Kyiv. They are working together with Ukrainian pastors and Irena's brothers to bring in food, water, and other supplies from Poland to distribute to the refugees fleeing the shelling of their homes. Joel asks for prayer
- For peace.
- For safety for us, family, pastors, and refugees.
- For wisdom and courage for Ukrainian President Zelensky and the Ukrainian leadership.
- For wisdom for Joel & Irena to know how and when to act and get involved with various needs here and how and when to relocate if needed.
- That God would use this time of uncertainty and fear to move the hearts of people and recognize Christ as the only hope and Saviour.
They also wrote that internet service is becoming unstable in some locations. Pray that they would be able to maintain communication.
As for me, just a few days ago I returned to Bulgaria from what was supposed to be a short visit to the US for the holidays. Plans changed when I caught covid in January. That pushed back some medical tests. I'm thankful for an uneventful trip back.
