February 2022
President's Message

Dear Members,

The fact that March is already here is a great sign for anyone looking to cure the winter blues.  We are only a few short weeks away from the official start of Spring, and I for one could not be happier about that.  Soon the landscape will come alive with spring ephemerals and the greening of the grass.  Songbirds will begin to play symphonies emphasizing again the wonderfulness of being outside.

For those that were able to join us last month at our Spring Conference, I hope you had as great of a time reconnecting with everyone as I did.  I look forward to all the events WI ASLA plans on hosting in the near future.  If you haven’t already, please mark your calendars for the 2022 Jensen-Longenecker Banquet on April 22nd.  In addition to celebrating all the UW students’ academic achievements; this year’s banquet will include the Professional Awards Presentation and Reception.

Speaking of the Professional Awards, a final reminder that award submittals are due today at 5 pm to awards@wiasla.com.  Please reach out if you have any questions.

As I mentioned at the Conference, we are still looking for Firm Partners to join this year’s list of firms that have committed to supporting our Student Scholarship Program.  This is a great way to support the future of the profession.

Until next time,

Alexander Thill, ASLA
Wisconsin Chapter President
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Dear Colleagues,

To support the work of Reggie Jackson and the Nurturing Diversity Partners, in their efforts to raise awareness, encourage conversation and move towards change, MaraLee Olson Design Studio will be making a contribution to Nurturing Diversity, in the name of WIASLA. I was moved by Mr. Jackson's presentation, especially when he specifically described how landscape architects have played a role in the continuation of segregation in planning and development.

I am equally inspired by the ways in which he described we can right this.

For WIASLA members who care to join me, I pledge to match all WIASLA member contributions to Nurturing Diversity Partners which are made by March 11, 2022, up to $3000.

Onward!
MaraLee Olson
For those who are interested in donating to Nurturing Diversity Partners as part of the challenge, please send checks made out to
