It has been a little more than one week since Russia invaded Ukraine in an unprovoked attack that has resulted in the displacement of at least 1 million Ukrainians and the demise of thousands of soldiers and civilians. As we watch on in horror across the Atlantic, our hearts break for the Ukrainian people as their battle for freedom continues.
This war is particularly disturbing as the Russian government has led many of its soldiers and citizens to believe that this ‘special military operation’ – the largest conventional military action in Europe since World War II – is aimed at denazifying Ukraine, which is home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the world.
President Putin has deliberately and perversely shifted the narrative to convince many Russian nationals that they are liberators and bringers of peace, when in fact, they are bringing destruction.
